pac had a one punch knockout power in his flyweight/bantanweight days, but since he's movin up in weight he had to worn down his opponents with his constant crisp punches then by late rounds going for the KO...if pac can't KO hatton, he can stop him with cuts...maybe hatton can take pac's punch, but he will definitely feel its effect later on the fight
Are we overestimating Pacquiao's Power Shots at 140?

If teh Oscar-Pac fight went one more round then Pac would have knocked ODLH out. Correct me if im wrong but i dont think anyone has KOed Oscar aside from Bhop.Comment

David diaz may not be the best lightweight out there then but his chin is definitely above average, with regards to Oscar i think we all can agree he has one of the better chins in boxing today so just the fact that pacs punches made Oscar hesitated proved Pac has still has some decent power in the lightwelterweight to welterweight area. I dont think pacs punches overrated.nobody is saying he still has that one punch power. Its the speed, accumulation, that wins it for him in the higher weights.imoComment

What we have to remember about the Oscar fight is two things:
1: Oscar is used to being hit by bigger guys who obviously hit harder (such as Bernard Hopkins). Oscar's chin is excellent.
2: Pacquiao's game plan was to keep moving, not to put full leverage behind punches. Basically, use mobility and speed to move in and out fast and wear Oscar down with accumulation of small but sharp shots. He executed the game plan beautifully and I believe it was the perfect strategy for a larger opponent. All the time Oscar was on his feet, he posed a threat. Oscar is much bigger and his left hook was always potentially deadly for Pacquiao if he happened to make an error and get caught by it. With this in mind, it wasn't wise to stand there slugging away to try and KO Oscar, although I do think Pac was aiming for a round 9 KO and, had the fight continued, he would have knocked him out. Oscar was almost finished in round 7. Freddie Roach put money down on a round 9 KO.
Seriously -- try using that much movement while putting all your weight behind your punches. It won't happen.
So while you may hear "Pac has deadly power" and comments like this, personally I'm getting much more sick of hearing "Pac couldn't even take out Oscar". Did you ever stop to think that the only thing that was important was a win, and that he might not have been aiming for a knockout?
Whichever way you look at it, it was an embarrassing one-sided beating that was never supposed to happen and was not expected by most.
Pacquiao is a phenom. This is not Malignaggi Ricky's dealing with.

Look i keep hearing in the forum that pac has this deadly power, that hatton won't be able to respond to...i give pac credit he has dominate power at 130 and below...and lets look at his 2 fights about 130, david diaz, which nobody would consider an elite lightweight in the world...then theres pac vs de la hoya.....he NEVER! knockdown de la hoya or ko'd him he quit because he was being overwhelmed......de la hoya was dead at 147 and way past his prime....do you really think pac is going to be able to knockout the best fighter at 140 in the world that will be a very live fighter that night unlike de la hoya was against pac....I think were overestimating the pac power at 140 or against any elite live fighter above 130....
what you guys think?Comment

true about diaz's chin oscar had no offense period....i think people keep saying as well hatton is just going to walk into pac's power shots...i see it the other way around...pac being the smaller guy is going to be lounging in with big left, and hatton is going to club him with a hook....similar to the malignaggi fight in round 2.....like floyd sr. said the game plain for pac is "controlled agression"
Dont you think the guy tried J.B.? I dont think he's more offensively talented than hatton but we are talking about chins here. Its easy to downplay pacs victory cause he dominated them.
Hatton i believe can hurt pac(specially the body punches) but i also believe Pac will hurt hatton more(Speed, power, workrate/accumulation).Last edited by strugler; 03-22-2009, 09:46 PM.Comment

Robert Garcia:It was confusion. He didn’t tell me he didn’t have it that night as far as energy. You know what happened and it never happened to him and it happened a little with Steve Forbes, he got lackadaisical and got hit with clean shots. And from what I hear from Joe Chavez, the left hand that hit him in the first round was so clean he was already dazed. Oscar is a hard guy to get to, so the confusion with the southpaw style added to the fact that Manny was hitting him flush with that straight left hand took him mentally out of his game and for the first time he was fuzzy in his head, he was kind of dazed from some of the punches he took. I mean Oscar is a hard guy to get a glove on, he knows how to slip and slide and get out of there, he uses his feet, but because of the southpaw style he wasn’t stalking him or retreating the way he normally does because he was confused. All the big shots Manny landed that night had a snow ball effect. So number one it was frustration.
This was the exact problem. Oscar was dazed from some of the first punches Pacquiao threw. Underestimate Manny at your peril! I'm not saying he's got Tommy Hearns-style power, but best believe the guy can crack hard enough to get his opponents' respect.

de la hoya was a flat footed had no movement what so ever that night...and hatton could have knocked him out quicker than pac did that night....but what is he going to do when he faces hatton's foot speed....and hatton is not afraid to trade shots....just my opinion but if it turns into a full scale war, not holding which some of the hatton critics will think, but just trading shots back and forth....i like hatton's power much more over pacs....thats what leads me to a late round ko for hatton if it goes this route....power vs power= hatton victory....pac is going to have to out box him and stay in the middle of the ringComment
