Hopkins is clearly Hall of Fame material. But he would be destroyed by Hagler if Hagler comes out looking for a war. Hopkins' plan has always been thwart and counter. Not even Tommy Hearns stuck in there long enough to get Hagler's respect. I say Hagler wins by 4th or 5th round KO.

interesting thoug I dont think comparing hearns to Hopkins is fair as Hopkins doesnt have the offensive arsenal of hearns but what he did have was that philly CHin.
Im not saiyng hop would beat hagler but I think it would be a lot closer than people are making out, Hagler wouldnt ko him nor vice versa. So then its a distance fight....and i dont know hagler would outsmart hopkins, i dunno comparing records isnt enough. Its a great fight between two top five all time middles in my book.

I have to agree with JPW. Hagler was a great fighter, but that was more because he had no real weaknesses, rather than due to some exceptional quality, and in that way he's not much different than Hopkins. Hagler was always in great shape, he was strong, he was smart, he was technically very sound, he had good but not exceptional power, his defence was solid, and his offence varied. Sound familiar?
About the only difference I can see is that Hopkins is the king of "dirty" fighting (which Hagler was never really comfortable with, in fact he had real problems with dirty fighters like Antuofermo), while Hagler's offence was extremely varied (he boxed straight-up, southpaw, and could give all the looks in between). I dunno, I call it a toss-up, but I also think it might not be a very exciting fight either...Comment
