Don't get me wrong, PAC is a great fighter with some balls. I have been watching PAC fights at my Filo mates house and told em that PAC will KO Diaz, and DLH. Do you really believe that PAC should be installed as the "heavy" favourite against Hatton? And do you think that PAC would stand a chance against Floyd? The only reason that i ask those last two Q's is that i think PAC's defense in suss!! Great footwork, but you can only hide behind your offense for so long.
No worries about the Khan comment, it just pissed me off for a minute but I'm not gonna take it too seriously.

OK, as for your questions, no, I never believed Pac should be a heavy favorite over Hatton. My thinking has never changed for this fight -- it will be a hard night for both fighters. Although I do think Pac should be a slight favorite (and I see him winning), it would not surprise me all that much if Hatton won. And if he did win convincingly -- and without using cheating tactics (I didn't appreciate the way he handled the Kostya Tsyzu fight) -- I would be more than happy to give credit where it's due. I'm not one of those Pacquiao fans that thinks Manny will just blow him out.

Do I think Pac would stand a chance aganst Floyd? Yeah, to be honest, I do. I'm not sure if he'd win, but with the right preparation and game plan he would most definitely stand a chance.

The thing I disagree on is Pacquiao's lack of defense. I think his defense is underrated, actually. Over the last few years he has improved so much, and I think he's still improving now.

We really don't know how hard his punches are at 140. Yeah, he beat down Diaz but it took 9rds of accumulative punching to put him down & Oscar never fought back, still Pacqiuao couldn't put him down. Hatton is used to engaging & brawling and if Manny can't knock Hatton down or out he is in for one hell of a night because Hatton can drop guys.
It also took Mayweather 10 rds of accumulative punching to put down Hatton. It wasn't like Mayweather was working extremely hard to keep the fight at a comfortable distance. Pacquiao will have a much higher punch output against Hatton than Mayweather. Pacquiao's defense has always been the most underrated aspect of his game. Just because he doesnt look like the offensive whirlwind that he is when on the defensive does not mean he cannot be just as effective stickin and moving.

        I'd like to add:

I think Oscar was about to be KO'd in the following round (9) and his corner could see it coming but decided it'd be better to pull him out. I was surprised he didn't hit the canvas in round 7. That round was brutal. On the other hand, Oscar is used to being hit by much larger guys (like Bernard) and has a great chin.

Actually, I wonder if Pac planned to try and go for the KO in round 9? Freddie put a bet on a round 9 KO, I just remembered.

Against George Chuvalo, who was a noted body puncher, Ali allowed him to take free pot shots at his body, and kept asking him if he could hit him any harder - which demoralised Chuvalo. And against Foreman, his superb ability to take big body shots allowed him to get away with his rope-a-dope - and again, he demoralised Foreman by repeatedly asking "is that all you got, George?"

I'm not sure why more fighters don't do that in sparring.

Because not everyone can take big body shots. Conditioning can only take you so far before your body reacts in the way it's supposed to when battered.

Don't get me wrong, I think Manny is a great fighter over all but when you think of Manny Pacquiao you think of OFFENSIVE, FAST & EXPLOSIVE, defensive is just not how I see him. He has a very good chance of winning this fight but I see Hatton having the same chances. You have to ask yourself this question, will Manny be able to get the same punch out put on Hatton that he got on De La Hoya and Diaz? I'm sure Hatton is not going to let Manny get comfortable enough to over whelm him with his speed. This fight will turn into a brawl. We can speculate and assume all day but we will have to wait till May 2nd.

It's amazing that such a pointless article could lead to a 17 page thread!

Actually I think Pacquiao will be able to get a higher punch output against Hatton than he did against Delahoya and Diaz. Because Hatton's bulldog style fits right into Pacquiao's blitzkrieg style and he's a much tougher guy than either of the aforementioned.

If Mayweather wasnt overwhelmed by Hatton's pressure then a faster, harder hitting Pacquiao wont have much trouble.
