He's been KOed in the first minute of round one, by a fighter he's not willing to rematch. He's been down several times in other fights, against relatively light punchers. He doesn't appear to have good defensive skills to compensate for his delicate chin, so when he next faces a prime world-class opponent he'll be KOed again.

Even old Barrera, blind in one eye, rocked him a couple of times in Saturday's fight. Before the cut, Barrera was getting the best of him, despite Khan being so much younger and so much bigger.

So why does the UK media hype him?

There are a number of better, more well-rounded young British boxers such as Kevin Mitchell, John Murray and Nathan Cleverly. So why do we never hear much about them, while the mediocre Amir Khan get so much attention?
uk fighters get hype easily....... ive never heard of carl froch before this year, and he hyped like some kind of monster...... jermain is going to destroy this dude........ but i guess i because mab is a legend annd hes only 35...... khan has a long way to go.... it wouldnt be smart to put him in a ring with funeka

Amir Khan? I haven't done any research on him. All i know is that he's a hyped up fighter. I heard that the Barerra fight should have been stopped. But it went on just to get Amir Khan a win.

khan ha s bigger following of haters than fans so it could be big enough to do, but why would prescot want to fight him anyway, he is ranked higher and is closer to a legit title shot than khan

Most boxing fans do not hype Khan, not ones that are knowledgeable anyway. They simply know the truth that he is talented but far from the complete article, a work in progress. He has been overhyped by the mainstream media but not the fans by and large.

I do wonder why so many people feel the need to ask these questions while putting up another thread about Khan. If you don't like Khan then why do you care? If you do then you should know the truth. Why don't you actually talk to some British fans about Khan and you will realise that he is not that hyped. The fans in Manchester pretty much booed the guy.

are we still going on about this??!!

watched it again for the first time since sat night, eventually got round to stomaching it!!

i recommend people watch it with and without sound - jim watts is a biased T**T. all i'll say is, if it went to point, khan would have won, but if it hadn;t been stopped, would it have gone to points.....

p.s note that khan's legs go 10 secs left in the second and again just before it get stopped.....ummmm

Big deal. "Most" UK fighters struggle to fill the JJB arena.

                2. The people who ARENT his fans would EASILY pay money to see the "****y young guy" get sparked out again.
Don't project YOUR opinion onto others.

                3. Even if they're not his fan, a LOT of people know the name Amir Khan because of the massive amounts of media he gets. He even had his own TV show.
                Khan's PPV numbers please?

                4. Like the man said, it's a chance for Khan to either show that he can hang with a big puncher, or a chance for a big puncher to show that the KO wasn't just a "mistake" and that he really just cant take a heavy puncher.
It's too much of a risk for someone who has yet to establish himself. Don't forget - boxing is a profession as well as a sport. I doubt Khan is solely a boxer because he wants to be the best. Like most boxers he wants a long and successful career. A bit of fame. A bit of fortune for him and his family. The Prescott fight jeopardized that - perfectly reasonable - aspiration. A second defeat could well put an end to it.

                5. If the fight is against a person who KO'd what the media are calling the UKs best fighting prospect, it will get peoples attention because they'll know there will either be another KO, or there will be a good fight.
                See above.

If we're talking accomplishments in terms of good victories, then I agree. On the other hand, his offence is nothing short of blistering and certainly World class.

Stop making up things to support your argument. Even if I didn't have that link, you'd still have no grounds to state that. You can question the ability of Khan, but don't question his heart or his ambition. Khan doesn't deserve that. On the subject of his defensive skills, he seems to be improving under Roach and we'll have to see what happens, but you're right about one thing, he'll have to protect that chin.

What fight were you watching? You clearly have very little boxing knowledge. Khan dominated from the opening bell and cut or no cut it's probable that he'd have cruised to a UD. Barrera was too blown-up at the weight, too slow and too short. You say he rocked Khan, but I see little evidence. He caught Khan off balance in the second round and Khan didn't look even slightly hurt.

The UK media hypes him because he won an Olympic silver medal at the age of 17 and did so in exciting fashion. Khan is also hyped because he is an exciting fighter to watch with a good offence. Does he deserve the hype? Not really, but it isn't hard to see why he gets it. I note that the UK prospects you name are all white, excluding Kell Brook who is clearly the best prospect. I don't know if you're racist or not, but people have suggested it in the past and you don't do yourself any favours.
