I saw it coming, straight up.

I'm not saying I saw a knockout in Hopkins' favor, or that I saw the fight being that one sided.

        But I saw it coming.

By the time fight night rolled around I had been a diehard Hopkins supporter for just over 5 years. I knew it was his "golden opportunity" of sorts, and that he would make good on it in the ring that night.

I also have to say, I didn't like Tito one bit. I didn't like the way he got the decision in a fight he lost 8 rounds (on my card) in, against Oscar. I didn't like the way he lowblowed Vargas and took Fernando out of the fight (for the record, I hated Vargas. I just thought he deserved better than what he got that night.).

I didn't hate him, but I hated his aura. I hated the hype. When everybody else looked at Tito, they saw a wrecking ball, a machine that couldn't be stopped. And that was probably true to some extent, he did reign as a Champion in 3 different divisions and he was knocking dudes straight out cold.

But I mostly saw a one dimensional fighter. Flat footed, stalking, always relying on the "big punch" to win him the fight. I knew eventually someone would take that weapon away from him, and he'd drown in deep waters without it.

I didn't exactly know it was going to be Bernard. But I wanted it to be him.

I wanted everybody else to finally get a glimpse at the skills of my hometown hero : The dude who grew up just a short 3 miles away from my house. The dude I felt was just as good as every other "star" out there at the time.

As for how I felt when it happened : Excited wouldn't even begin to scratch the surface.

In the same night I got to see Bernard rise, and Tito fall. 2 things I wanted nothing more at that time in the boxing world.

I still watch that fight to this day, got it saved on my hard drive, along with all of my other B-Hop fights.

I even re-enacted it to the best of my ability in a fight on "Fight Night Round 3". It was awesome.

I didn't see Felix knockin out Bhop at all. I thought he might be able to outwork him, but I felt Bhop was bein slept on. I slightly favored Bhop to win, but no ****in way I thought he'd do so in the manner that he did. I was blown away by that ****.

I was at that fight, watched it live. Let me just say us guys from Philly cheering on Hopkins were outnumbered there. I was sitting next to these Rican girls and some guys who actually broke down to tears and cried when Tito got knocked out.

That's awesome. Everytime I watch that fight I think about how great it would have been there that night. NY just a couple weeks after 9/11, the PR crowd in full support of their hero, the significance of the fight...must have been a great atmosphere.
