Five days before the great showdown between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and no. 1 contender Juan Carlos Gomez it was team Gomez who clearly won the “first round” at today’s press conference in Stuttgart. While Vitali kept repeating that he will give Gomez a lesson “which won’t last very long” his manager Bernd Bönte had to admit that team Klitschko actually refused the referee and one judge the WBC had planned to appoint for the fight. Apparently, the champion and his team are getting nervous with fight day approaching. [details]

Well apparently anything can't happen, according to a lot of people, including Vitali it would seem. The Klitschkos' either end their fights inside the distance or win almost every round. For the Klitschko camp to even worry about judges and referees does show at least a little bit of respect for Gomez.

I don't really care who wins, but I'm loving Gomez's fighting talk. He's got guts and wants to do battle (at least verbally). Peter was scared ****less by this point last October.
Hopefully Gomez doesn't wind up looking like Peter did in the ring.
