I do own a car but am not a millionaire who is famous in my own country, I do understand how the system works, And when you hit someone on a zebra-crossing then you dont need to admit liability it means you are liable, The insurance company would have to payout anyway and it doesnt affect you if you make a gesture like compensating the guy from your own pocket.Do you own a car? The reason is quite simple, and has nothing whatsoever to do with how generous or otherwise the driver might be, and everything to do with his insurance company. Such 'gestures' admit liability and would leave the driver open to being sued for pretty much any further amount their 'victim's' lawyer could think of a fairy story to justify. Make a habit of doing that and no bugger will be willing to insure you at all. Sadly, that's just how the system works.Last edited by Ray*; 04-05-2009, 07:05 AM.Comment

I'm afraid you really do learn how the system works - and read your policy - before you next go for a drive. Insurers always fight to pay out as little as they can.. whatever the rights or wrongs that's how they make money. It is actually quite easy to think of an argument in the case you describe; what if somebody just ran out in front of you on the crossing while it was already too late to stop? Not saying that is what happened here as it doesn't seem it did, but insurers don't like having the rug pulled from under they feet if they have a chance of arguing at least a proportion of the responsibility away, and you will find you are breeching the terms of your agreement if you try. Any, end of.. this is all woefully off topic.I do own a car but am not a millionaire who is famous in my own country, I dont understand how the system works, And when you hit someone on a zebra-crossing then you dont need to admit liability it means you are liable, The insurance company would have to payout anyway and it doesnt affect you if you make a gesture like compensating the guy from your own pocket.Comment

This attitude is a sad, sad thing. A guy with that much money and fame can always get insurance. He has money and the insurance companies want it.Do you own a car? The reason is quite simple, and has nothing whatsoever to do with how generous or otherwise the driver might be, and everything to do with his insurance company. Anyway, that really shouldn't even be a factor. He hit a guy while driving like a fool. That guy could then not get work anymore. Imagine if that happened to you? Think about that for a second. Your whole career ruined by some little twit with an ego, who then tries to scam you out of a payout through his lawyers. $14,000 ain't much to a guy that earns millions a year. It is literally nothing to him. It would be like your typical guy on 60-80 grand a year giving someone $500. ****ed up. He has some really bad karma waiting for him in the next life.
There is nothing more pathetic in this day and age than an hideously rich person ruining a working class/middle class person's life and then doing whatever they can to not help them out at all or try to keep them from even getting any money. Especially such a small amount as $14,000. Why is anyone a fan of this guy in Britain? He didn't even wait until after his ruined career like Hamed.
If the insurers didn't want to pay him anything, so be it. That's ****ed up and pathetic. Khan himself not doing a damn thing to help this guy though?

I was meant to say that i "DO" know how the system works, What am encouraging had nothing to do with an insurance company....Of course insurance company would alway try to payout as little as possible..THAT why i reckon he should have try and compensate the poor guy AFTER he had been found guilty.
No insurance company invovle...off the record compensation, Thats all am suggesting.Comment

Thank you, Am baffled by that attitude as well.....I wouldnt have been able to live with himself if i had done something like that, And if i was privilege enough to be in a position where i could compensate the guy then i would have taken it up without any hesistation.Comment
