Of course it's ultimately meaningless because no records are ever going to be changed nor should they but it's a subject for debate.

I'd imagine that there would be some controversy if Calzaghe had lost amateur fights after turning pro, for example.
Naw, it would be like losing in sparring. Who cares when there is nothing at stake? That's the difference. I'm sure that allot of fighters have lost in sparring but won in the fight they were sparring for. See the relativeness?

I wouldn't compare an amateur fight to sparring, maybe an exhibition contest which were popular up until the Ali era.

Even still, exibitions apply too. They don't really count toward a professional record and they shouldn't.

That would be ok if we weren't on the internet and all you have to do is cut and paste into google bar.
So it proves nothing to answer the questions.
One more thing, there are many serious fans that probably couldn't answer one of those questions, it takes nothing away from their love of the sport.

Robert Salters beat Rid**** at the 88 Trials but Bowe reversed that in the box-off and made the team...his real claim to fame, though -I was there for it- was when he STOPPED Bowe at the 1988 US Championships

I wouldnt say it is a pointless thread...if you love boxing I think it is interesting and believe me some of this stuff is not "googable" LOL...and why would u want to google for answers? Either you know or you do not.

As for headgears, they became mandatory in the early 80's...I know as late as 1983 Mark Breland fought an international meet without headgear, I have the photo
