Wasn't the tournament in March 1948 though? Marciano made his pro debut under the name "Rocky Mack" in 1947.

Not so sure about that. A lot of this information can't be found even on the internet.

Try to google all the answers and you'll see.

I asumed the still wore headgear in the ametuers in the 40's. Am I wrong?

Even if they didn't, I'm sure Marciano would have beat the piss out of the guy had he got a lil' experience under his belt.

            No headgear in those days.

He would've won in his prime but it's true that he lost to Wallace after making his pro debut.

Don't know allot of the answers, don't know if you can really google all of the answers and don't have the time even if I wanted to answer them all. I think most everyone on here would agree too.

So.............failed thread, even though I do believe the poster has a wealth of past boxing knowledge. I just don't think many of the people in the questions are all that relevant.

Not only that, this should be posted in the boxing history section.

Possibly, but it didn't go down as a pro loss because it was not a professional prizefight , which makes the loss irrelevant. Much like Roy Jones' and Joe Calzaghe's ametuer losses. Capiche'?

Headgear is a new invention (in fights). I think it was in the late eighties or early nineties they became mandatory to help separate the am's from the pro's following fatalities in the pro game.

Obviously but the difference is that Marciano fought and lost in the amateurs after he had turned pro. Marciano's 49 straight victories in a row is a legendary record in boxing so when it comes up that he had actually lost a boxing match after turning pro, it's going to be talked about.

Of course it's ultimately meaningless because no records are ever going to be changed nor should they but it's a subject for debate.

I'd imagine that there would be some controversy if Calzaghe had lost amateur fights after turning pro, for example.

Yea, I should have realized that because I've seen allot of ametuer fights from the 70's olympics. Duh, that's my bad. Thanks for the info however.
