    Should have never happened...

This fight should have never been made. I said it a million times before the fight. I am disgusted at these young guys trying to build a name by beating old legends. Marco hadnt looked good in years, and he moved up in weight. Yeah, what an amazing win that is for Amir. All he needs to do is call out Johhny Tapia now and he will be P4P. Seeing how much pride some of you are taking in this win is pathetic. Let him beat a great (or even good) fighter in his prime, who is his own weight class, then feel free to talk. As for now, Amir is nothing but a protected fighter who will get crushed (again) as soon as he steps up. And deep down, you fan boys know it. And Marco, hang them up. Like most of us have been telling you to do for years. Hang them up.

      I disagree.

Going into the fight, opinion was divided pretty much 50/50 regarding who would win.

Young prospect vs past-prime former champion fights are useful, because they reveal whether or not the prospect has genuine potential, and/or whether or not the past-prime boxer has anything left.

I agree with you that this fight doesn't prove anything about how Khan would do against world class opposition, but the making of the fight in the first place wasn't a bad idea IMO.

Of course Marco wanted the fight. "Once great" fighters always hang on too long and want that one last shot at glory. The facts are that Barrera hasnt looked good in the last couple fights he won, and lost the last two big name fights he was in. Khan coming off a KO loss chooses to fight a smaller man, who is shot (I said this all as soon as the fight was made) just because of the name. Unless Khan got caught with something, it was supposed to be a showcase for him. I know plenty of people here picked MAB to win, but that was mostly people picking with there hearts. You wont find a bigger Barrera fan then me, but I said as soon as the fight was made that it was nothing more then a young, overprotected kid trying to build a name off the back of a guy who shouldnt even be fighting anymore. That is why the fight is bull****. It doesnt matter if Marco wanted it or not. Im sure Rid**** Bowe would fight Vitali if they asked him to, but it doesnt make the fight worth having, and it wouldnt prove anything. Khan is just hoping to beat a few old legends, probably make them all come up in weight (like he did Marco) and hope he can become a star before he is exposed. He should fight Morales next. He would have just as many posters blowing him for it, and he would be in a fight he couldnt lose. How about fighting someone who is good, in his prime, at the same weight? He wont, because he will go to sleep again. And they know it. They are milking whatever they can out of him. Again, the fight should have never been made.

Moto, I agree on most points. I don't think this fight proved anything about Khan that we didn't already know.

What I disagree with is blaming Khan for forcing Barrera to go up in weight. Marco has fought his last couple of fights at lightweight. In fact , no -- he was 137.5 in one fight and 140 in the other. He also seemed to struggle to make 135 for this fight, seeing as he had to strip naked and was very thirsty at the weigh-in. It's safe to say 135 is the absolute limit he can reach right now.

I disagree with most of your points...alot of people still thought Barrera had it in him to win the fight...what were the odds coming in to the fight?

This fight proves a few things about Khan. He isn't as bad a prospect some of us thought he was.

And how do you know Khan is just hoping to beat a few old legends and not young in their prime fighters? He hasn't even picked his next fight yet. You can start complaining when he starts doing a Floyd Mayweather.

A lot of those kinds of fighters are only successful in cherry picking if the timing is right. In Khan's case, he won't get too many of these kinds of fights, if ever again. He's too young. Eventually he'll have to get in the ring with someone. I don't even think Freddie Roach will be able to keep him out of harms way for that long, no matter how hard he tries. lol Unless Roach can get Khan to come down to 130, Roach and Khan will be surrounded with ****ers for years to come.

Calzaghe and Paq get away with it because of timing, Paq jumps from division to division with little to no resistance just because he showed up in the sport at the right time. Calzaghe too, he takes on the older big names climbs the ranks, but ignores the young ones. Although I think that Lacy fight was a huge win for Joe. But then again, Lacy wasn't lookin that good goin into that fight. Regardless, Khan won't have those same chances.

I agree with you, I just think they are going to try and milk some "names" for a while before they risk having him soundly beaten again. One knock out can be written off as a great punch, but if it happens again it will drop his stock a huge amount.

Well I suppose Khan isnt to blame for Marco moving up, but I cant wrap my head around this fight being anything other then hand picking an old legend to build a name off of in a safe fight. Obviously Marco may struggle to hit weight now, but this isnt his best weight regardless. It's less about Khan (even though Im bitching about him) and more about the fact that I HATE seeing legends used to build a young fighters name rather then seeing good young fighters actually fight other good young fighters. I also hate how much credit he is getting for beating an old Marco so soundly. I hate fights like this. Oscar vs Chavez, Pac vs Marco and Morales, Hatton vs Kostya ect. I would rather see prime vs prime.
