A fighter is always going to say he wants to continue, and its not his choice, its the doctor and the referee's decision. As I said before when Diego Coralles and Cassamoyer fought, Diego was still fighting back but had blood in his mouth and the fight was stopped even though Diego insisted on continuing. The doctor and referee saw the same thing in rounds 1-5 but stops the fight in round 5.
Why the Khan-Barrera fight wasn't stopped earlier

The reasons for Diego wanting to contiue were different from Barreras because Diegos cut wasn't accidental, at that time all the fighter can do is appeal and then it is up to the ref and doctor...
If they stop it then it is a TKO.
Barreras was accidental and thus he had the choice to appeal to continue which he did otherwise if he asked the fight to be stopped there would be no doubt it would of been and finish as a NC.
Corrales wanted to continue so he could win, Barrera wanted to continue because he knows its a big event and doesn't want the fight to be stopped this way because hes got alot to show but he could of stopped it and salvage some pride (With himself) with a NC which is fair enough.Comment

Barrera and Corrales are two of a long list of fighters that would opt to continue to fight under any circumstances. Barrera wanted to continue to fight and so did Corrales for the same reason, belief in his skills and heart to beat the other fighterin the ring. What does Barrera care to dissapoint the crowd, the fight wasn't in Mexico. And if begs out of the fight, a la Guerrero, he most likely gets a rematch and even more money. So your points are incorrect, and again I say it is not up to the fighter at that point to continue or not, it is the referee and doctor who have to look out for his health. A fighter is a fighter, not a doctor.Comment

Round 2 or 3, in my opinion.

The crowd you speak of is not only the thousand watching in the arena but the millions watching around the world.
If he begs out of the fight then he won't get a rematch because this is not the Barrera everyone wanted to show up to the fight, thus dismissing a rematch because we all know Barrera wouldn't quit, showing one of his qualities.

Ok, last time. Barrera (Had a cut due to Accidental headbutt), he had the choice to stop the fight by appealing (Dude did you see that cut?), he didn't (Because Barrera is badass and wanted to fight on). End.
There's loads of factors involved, English ref and persumably english doctor (Out of professional most likely wanted to give Barrera a chance to fight on or give khan a win) But Barrera didn't disagree and fought on.Comment

wasnt there a thread about how guerrero was a ***** for not continuing? I specifically remember people complaining about that. all i can say is if this was the other way around it wouldnt have made it to 5. they would have given khan the NC to protect him. i cant help but feel because of his popularity hes destined to become one of the most protected fighters of all time. whatever, build him up all you want, he will eventually fall. i remember after prescott someone said he got "khanned". i love that term and look forward to using it again, because sure enough, when he faces a real puncher who isnt old and cut to ****, he will get "khanned".Comment

Barrera's cut was not as dangerous as Vitali's, but it is a fact that his performance was greatly affected by the amount of blood covering his face and running directly into his eye. This is not suggesting that Barrera would have won if he wasn't cut, but it is suggesting that the doctor and referee were either incompetent or doing the best thing for Khan to ensure he came away with a win. Personally, I think it stinks of home cooking. The playing field was not level, and without the cut we might have seen a different outcome

Barrera wanted to fight on because who wouldn't? especially since it is Barrera.
Okay I said 3 times that he has the choice to end the fight, which he does because they can clarify it was accidental and he cannot see making the fight dangerous.
I said he has the Choice to Appeal which he did, not have a choice outright to continue thats is the doctors decision.
Him appealing has an effect, if he did not appeal then that would give them the impression that he is not happy to continue, its just human nature that the ref would take into account the determination of the fighter, whether it is a right decision is another story.
The Doctor could of ended the fight but didn't this is a factor that was mentioned, (maybe being biased and wanting Khan to win, who knows)Comment

Out of curiosity, does anybody know if it's been reported what exactly was said in the conversation between MAB and the doctor the first time (I think it was the 3rd Round, I forget)?Comment
