Why the Khan-Barrera fight wasn't stopped earlier

Marco Antonio Barrera's cut was the same in the previous 4 rounds as it was in the 5th. The referee and the doctor saw the same thing every round but decided to stop the fight only when Amir Khan could be awarded the win and not a No Decision. A No Decision doesn't advance the career of Amir Khan but this win does. This fight should've been stopped in the second round. I think Amir Khan looked quick, technically superior, and overall a better fighter than we have ever seen him. And Barrera is an idiot for taking a fight against a bum before this one and his skin was obviously still torn from the previous fight. I don't know what to think of this fight, but I do know that this fight shouldn't of been stopped in the 5th round.

I'd hate to throw such a heavy allegation out there, but I was wondering the same thing. You couldn't hear what Barrera was saying, so its tough to know. When they looked at the cut in the 3rd he was pawing at his eye which I thought was saying he was having trouble seeing, but who knows.

It just doesn't smell right. Khan's career was on the line and a win sets him up for a title shot and more money and stardom. And the fight is stopped at the one opportunity to get Khan his win. The cut was no different than the dozen other times it was looked at.

yes its very suspiscious, the cut was the same in the fith and i no Barreras english is bad and the ref and doctor dont speak mexican, so i feel this was left to go to the 5th any idiot can see that, no contest was the correct call but it wasnt given, plus the ref could see he could not see and is it not the case that if blood is affecting your sight the fight is stopped, all very conveinient, hopefull Barrera will push for a rematch, but i think he may just go for a title and retire
