Floyd Mayweather Plans Announcement, to Fight Pacquiao-Hatton Winner?

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. walked away from boxing last year, retiring undefeated at the age of 31, everyone assumed it would just be a matter of time before he announced he was returning.
So far, that announcement hasn't come. But a new report is giving boxing fans some hope that Mayweather, who at the time of his retirement was widely viewed as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, is finally getting ready to come out of retirement and get back into the ring, possibly to face the winner of the upcoming superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton.
Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal writes:
Amid rumors that he's coming out of retirement, unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has pulled out of a fundraiser and gala for the needy in Middletown, Ohio. Once a great steel city, Middletown has been labeled by Forbes magazine as one of the 10 fastest dying cities in America. Mayweather's spokesman told the benefit's organizers the reason for the withdrawal would be clear after an "announcement" this week.
Now, that "announcement" could be anything. But I've already gotten e-mails from a couple of boxing fans who are in a lather about the possibility that his announcement is that he's coming out of retirement, and I must confess that I'm very excited about that possibility myself.
So who would Mayweather fight if he does return? Juan Manuel Marquez said after beating Juan Diaz that he hopes to fight Mayweather next, and that would obviously be a great fight. But if Mayweather is going to come out of retirement, the fight I most want to see is Mayweather against the Pacquiao-Hatton winner.
I thought when Mayweather announced his retirement that he was eventually going to come back, and I still think that. I don't know what his upcoming announcement is, but I sure hope he makes it official that he's going back to what he does best, and I hope to see him in the ring again this year.
