Certainly could be argued. Certainly could. There is no defining fight out there for him unfortunately though. He missed his chance during the early part of this decade for whatever reasons (let's leave the debate over why this is for another thread though!).

Hatton should not be on that list, he was fighting over his weight class- also- Did you happen to catch the Hatton-collazo fight?

I think Floyd's career defining fight was against Corralles. his next best fight was the castillo rematch, which puts him 7-8 years away from a career fight.

I'm like Common with floyd: I Used to Love Her. Turned into a her over the last 7 years.

A Pacquiao bout would definitely trump that however
So would a Sugar Shane Mosley fight. which could actually take place with Floyd fighting a guy who is the same size as him, who has fought more top ten guys in Floyds weight class than floyd did when he was a champion.

        JMM needs to beat Pac.

I don't think Vitali will ever get that fight.

Arthur Abraham could use a career defining fight, as could Paul Williams.

And Floyd Mayweather has given us plenty of those fights. Not too many as of recent but he's proven his greatness to us.
No doubt, but as I said, I don't see that one victory which was ever in question.

Excuses really don't matter after the fight. It's all about what people think GOING INTO the fight that matters. And when the bell rings, the victor should get FULL CREDIT for whatever happens.
I completely agree. I've always been an advocate for judging a victory based on circumstances before the fight and not after, because one fight can change everything for a fighter. Personally though, I've never really doubted that Floyd was going to win. I held some mild patriotic hope for Hatton, but my head always said that Mayweather was going to put on a show. I never managed to convince myself that it was finally that fight to define Mayweather.

When you think of fighter and one particular fight sticks out in your head.....guess what.....that's their defining fight.
It's all subjective, but to me Marquez and Vitali deserve better defining fights. It's all very questionable.

The amount of belts doesnt help. And also all this division hopping and fighting at catchweights doesnt help either which is surprising when you think that moving up or down or fighting at a catchweight would be the purpose of chasing career defining bouts. It can go either way,but in the case of Mayweather,If he would have stayed at welter and fought everyone there he would have probably had the most impressive resume of all time with names like Cotto,Moseley,Margarito,Williams etc.

Wladimir Klitschko needs a defining fight more than anyone else out there. I'd like to see him tested and have to overcome some adversity before pulling out the win. And I could see Alexander Dimitrenko being the fighter who tests him...
