Now they seem to get far to much money and credit, jake la motta and larry holmes gave there trainers no credit and said they learned there trade in sparring as did many other great fighters, now every time a fighter gets beat he thinks by moveing trainers he will be a new fighter when its more menatlly than anythink, he is still the same fighter only in a different gym. What ever happend to haveing the one trainer and sticking with him?
Are trainers over rated?

They are kind of like coaches in other sports, they get a lot of credit when things work well but tend to be the fall guy when things go poorly.
A good trainer is important though, especially to a young fighter. A vetren might be able to get by without a real trainer (somewhat) but you still need someone to push you in training, and to keep a fighter on schedule.Comment

Believe me, in some cases a trainer can make a fighter...you need a connection with your trainer...a good one with your trust, and a guy with knowledge, can get the fighter to do great things...you have to know when to tell him to do certain thigns...sometimes he thinks he's winning and you need a good trainer to tell him he is wrong..tell him when to pick it up etc...the fighter drives the car but he still needs and relies on the guy in the pit crew watching from a distance -with a keen eye- as they unfoid...Comment
