    Deigo Corrales is grossly underrated.

Why is it that people tend to focus on his fights after his first fight with Castillo? It's obviously apparent that fight ruined him as an elite fighter, and wasn't the same ever since that magical fight.

Excluding his last 3 fights (fights all post Castillo I), he was 40-2, and his only two losses coming from Floyd Mayweather, and him suffering an unfortunate cut against Joel Casamayor which caused in early stoppage. Not to mention he beat Casamayor in the rematch.

Corrales has names on his resume like:

    Jose Luis Castillo
    Joel Casamayor
    Acelino Freitas
    Derrick Gainer
    Angel Manfredy
    Roberto Garcia

It's incredible the disrespect the man gets on this forum.

Diego is disrepected because there are so many Margaritos/Mayweather haters. They know by giving Diego his proper respect that they also have to give Floyd his.

      he was very good.

but mind you, he was way behind on points against Freitas and pulled out a miracle against Castillo the first time around.

he had his weaknesses like any other fighter, but he had a lot of heart and was very good puncher. quite skilled as well.
he still could be outboxed and was somewhat easy to hurt at times, although he wouldnt show you it often.

Corrales is only underrated by those who dislike Mayweather. He was a great fighter whos heart could not be questioned at any point of his career.

I had Diaz behind against Freitas also before Freitas got tired and quit.

I'd say that he was ruined by Mayweather. Mayweather definitely showed he was the premier fighter in that weight class of that era. Corrales was a amazing puncher, he had some skills but he started to rely to much on his power and that is when everything dropped. When he used his jab more and followed through with more boxing skill he did better, but he wouldn't be Corrales without that all out fighting style.

thats a weird scorecard. Freitas was ahead at one point in the fight, but by the time he quit Diaz and caught up and eclipsed him point wise, on almost everyones scorecard.

worst case scenario Diaz was only behind one round. wheras Frietas was arguably still ahead point wise even after being dropped in 3 consecutive rounds.

dont forget that Corrales was in jail for 14 months and didnt fight again for 2 years after the Mayweather fight. that probebly set him back.

I actually think overall Corrales was better after the Mayweather loss though.
