Do people blindly hate because they think it makes them look cool? And do people really get off on posting threads aimed at pissing people off? (You can't find a better way to entertain yourself?)
Why is Ortiz "hyped" so much? Well, maybe it's because all the superstar boxers are old now and he's 22, a really good fighter with a bright future ahead of him. Maybe it's because he's with Golden Boy, arguably the biggest promoters in the business. Maybe it's because he has fans. Maybe he deserves the attention, you know?
I don't get why people get mad at a fighter getting attention. Boxing needs popular fighters (not just one or two) so they can fight each other in big fights. (I acknowledge that some fighters get hyped when they don't deserve it, but that's not the case here.)
And for the people who always want to make things racial, when are you gonna get it that it's about ecomonics first and foremost. Yeah, race plays into it, but money trumps all that. Mexican boxing fans support their boxers, so that's why good Mexican fighters are gonna catch breaks (notice I said "good"). Mexican fighters are not the only ones capabable of blood-and-guts fighting, but those type of fights are what appeal to people who spend money on boxing. Those casual fans are key because we all know that amongst the hardcore boxing community, illegal streams and not buying PPVs is common. People are complaining about certain fighters not getting atttention, but they don't put no money in those boxers' pockets.
But as soon as any boxer gets a little shine, here come the haters. The same thing happened with hip-hop and look what happened to hip-hop...
