Are you freakin crazy!!? Brett Favre's football career surpasses Tysons boxing career by miles. Itv surpasses almost any other player to take the field in the NFL. You don't have to like his country like demeanor, but his records and longevity speak for themselves. Thats coming from a die hard Cowboys fan!
Mike Tyson is Underrated Historically

Prime Tyson would have cleared out todays HW division just like he did back in his prime, the thing is the majority of boxing fans are fickle.. fighters are remembered by the things they didn't achieve/ or messed up rather than the other way round.
As already stated Tyson was the most exciting HW, you knew watching his fights that you was gonna see some bombs... even against poor opposition you'd still be up for watching it.
Tysons fundamental skill set under the likes of Cus & Rooney were very under rated... his head movement was second to none, as was his speed, Foot work and Jab. Another thing Tysons Chin was granite.
I hate these ATG lists that get passed on to todays boxing fans by old historians and grainy images/video. Not to say that we shouldn't know the history of the sport but to me Tyson is iconic to my memories of boxing and should be to anyone my age. If a Book was written about Boxings Best Fighters of the last 40-50 years can you seriously say Tyson wouldn't be mentioned... you can't. has he was the youngest heavyweight champion of the modern era that alone stamps his imprint on boxings history.Comment

You've failed to see the contradiction.
His place amongst the ATG list is under-rated.
His abilities and capabilities might be slightly over-rated. However that is purely down to how he defeated his opposition.
This is my list
Ali
Louis
Holmes
Lewis
Tyson
Holyfield
Foreman
Marciano
Frazier
Liston
In terms of actual ability, however, I place Tyson just below Ali.Comment

Best article ive read in a very long time. Props to the author.
Look, pre prison Tyson was a completely different fighter to post prison Tyson. If anyone fails to recognise this then they are severly disillusioned.
Tyson's upbringing after Cus'd mato died and Don King came in was absolutely ***ed. This is what fame does to someone of Tyson's mentality, because lets face it; the guy had mental issues.
Tyson is without a doubt heavily underrated by many boxing experts and fans. A 4 year lay off is too difficult to come back from.Comment

[QUOTE=mangler;4858754]The end result matters most, and yea Mike got KTFO by Douglas. But on that 1 nite as noted in the article, Buster wasn't a journeyman chump, he was a beast. He more or less coincidentally had his best nite at the same time Tyson had his worst nite. Buster was never that good before or again,
Buster's cinderella man story.
Movie's coming by the end of 2080Comment

He could have been one of the greatest, but he killed his chances with his indiscipline and attitude. Whether it makes your blood boil to hear them in the same sentence or not, Mike Tyson and Prince Naseem Hamed are remarkably similar.
Tyson in his prime used to work the body, use his jab and attack intelligently out of his peek-a-boo shell. Tyson after the death of Cus D'Amato just headhunted and bullied his way inside. Clearly his inflated ego and mental problems caused this. He needed the father figure of Cus to control him. We'll never know how good Tyson could have been. As it stands, he is well behind Ali, Louis, Lewis, Foreman and Holmes at least.Comment

Man I'm def gonna comment on this when I get tow ork and have a minute.. my man was A very good heavyweight. He did some things no one will ever do. Was put with the wrong people. Was robbed. Was lied on and made to be some kind of "ludacris" person outside the ring.
Everyone turned their backs on him. The least a boxing fan or fan of mike at all can do is support any good talk about him.
I will admit I'd have to look at who was what when he was fighting and dominating but I like the thought tha someone will stand up for mikes place in history and Say he was underrated.
It was his time. So It can very well be true. Can someone post the top 10 for hiswhole career and if he fought them. and at the points in his career. before and after jail.

I remember being at the gym after Tyson beat Berbick and even all the women were talking about Tyson the beast. It was definitely an exciting time to be a boxing fan. But, you know what they say shooting stars burn out quick. Oh, by the way and not to be picky, but it is United States Marine Corps and not "Core."Comment
