However, I think you'll find the majority of people disagree with you anyway. You're talking about people being biased against Brits? But then you are biased toward your own fighters, right? Hence; you place Hatton higher than someone else would merely because he's from your country. You can't have it both ways.
thats nonsense samurai.supporting fighters from your own country and being biased towards them are two entirely different things.

p4p is mainly about consensus, and a convincing win for ricky would make a compelling argument for his case.If this happens, which is by no means certain, then a follow up victory over JMM would rubber stamp it.
Even a decisive win over Pacquiao wouldn't be enough on its own, in my opinion - Tarver KO'd Jones when Jones was ranked #1, and he only moved up to #3 as a result. A decisive win over both Pac and JMM would probably do it, though. Even then it depends on what the other top P4P fighters do in the meantime. But I strongly disagree with those who say he'd necessarily have to beat a Welterweight - ability to move up in weight is simply not and never has been what the P4P rankings are based on, and I don't understand why so many people misunderstand this.

I have to disagree with you for once, Samurai. In terms of how a panel of experts subjectively rates him relative to other elite fighters, I think how decisively he wins has a lot to do with it. I don't think even a decisive win over Pac would get him higher than around #3 in the P4P rankings, but I think a decisive win would count for much more in the minds of the rankings panel than a narrow and controversial SD.

but the coin can be flipped and i could ask how is pacman the no.1?

yea he has moved up in weight and stuff, but some of the opponents he has faced recently are nothing to shout about.

david diaz was a solid fighter, but the gulf in class was almost funny.
and a "shock" win over de la hoya? yea right,he was old, weight drained and shot.

he drew against against marquez(all be it a bit of a **** decision)and lost to morales.i know he won the other two but still he lost.

and he got knocked out a few times earlier on in his career too.

hatton only lost to the best fighter in the last 10 years. and i think in his last eight fights he has fought seven world champs...

a case could be made for either one not to be no.1. i just think if you beat the best you become the best!

Quality of opposition + Moving up + Stoppage performances against Barrara, Morales, De La Hoya + Win over Marquez + Mayweather Retirment.

It still surprises me that Hatton doesn't realise that beating the number 1 fighter doesn't make you number 1 on the p4p list.

Hatton should have to win impressively to pass Pacquiao on the list.

I guess a similar situation would be if Chad Dawson fights Paul Williams at 175 and wins and then says he should be p4p #1 as a result.
Makes all the sense in the world.

It surprises me that people actually think it does.

And Hatton is ranked #8 in The Ring's P4P list, which is by far the most respected P4P list because it's compiled by a large panel of highly respected boxing experts who do not work for The Ring (one of whom is Cliff Rold of boxingscene).
Sorry to burst your bubble again but MOST people factor moving up in weight in with the criteria or the P4P rankings.

It si not the only reason by any means but it surely helps the argument. ALOT.
