It's just not gonna work out like that. Hatton can't simply beat Pacquiao to be suddenly considered #1. He needs to do more. He lost to Floyd, then beat Lazcano and Malignaggi, and now he fights Pacquiao. If he beats him, it's still not enough. If he moved up to Welterweight and beat Cotto or Mosley maybe he'd stand a better chance, but really, who would think Hatton could win those fights? My money would be on Cotto or Shane.

Studying how Pacquiao rose to the top of the pile you'll see he's worthy of being universally recognized as #1. This will be Pac's 5th division: 106 to 147 (not 6th division because the first Barrera fight wasn't a title fight). He worked his way up gradually, beating some of the best along the way, then recently demolished a solid (if unspectacular) lightweight in David Diaz, then a future HOF'er in Oscar. Imagine Hatton moving up 41lbs from where he started? That'd be like Ricky fighting at 188 -- 13 pounds above light heavy! LOL.

It's Pac's overall accomplishments that have gotten him to the top. Hatton hasn't achieved nearly as much.
Jr FlyWeight ,FyWeight, Super BamtamWeight, FeatherWeight,Super FeatherWeight, LightWeight, WW and now JWW, thats 8 divisions to me, not 5 or 6.

    And Pacquiao is a 5 division champ, (112WBCLineal,Ring) (122IBF), (126Lineal), )130WBC,lineal Ring) and 135 WBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hatton wont get close to the pound for pound title so he might stick to craving over food and beer.

No kidding, I already made a thread about this. Just because you beat the pound for pound #1 doesnt mean you take his place. Think Buster Douglas vs Tyson.....

how can hatton not become the best after beating the best? what is diffrent about this matchup?
Because Pac is naturally smaller. Pac is #1 because of the quality of his opposition, impressive performances, and the fact he has been able to move up past his natural weight classes and TAKE BIGGER CHALLENGES which shows how brilliant he is.

If Hatton wins thats great for him and its a good win even though Pac is smaller, but that is not nearly as impressive as stepping up and facing the best guys a division or 2 up above from where he fights. Which is exactly what Pac is doing. What Marquez is doing, what Bhop is doing, what Mayweather did.

Everyone knows Mayweather was a natural 140 pounder but he was so good he could fight at 147 and make more money with no problems. Think about what people would say if Mayweather just sat at 140 and said this is my natural weight Im not gonna fight bigger guys. Sure he had to potshot and wasnt nearly as impressive offensively as he was at lightweight but at least he proved he could do it, he was that gifted.

            Hatton has not done that.

The word mythology refers to a body of folklore/myths/legends that a particular culture believes to be true and that often use the supernatural to interpret natural events and to explain the nature of the universe and humanity. Mythology also refers to the branch of knowledge dealing with the collection, study and interpretation of myths, also known as mythography. The study of myths from multiple cultures is called comparative mythology.

the p4p list is not really a mythical list....not to nitpick,i knew what you ment. lol

good post,i agree with most of what you say.

but the coin can be flipped and i could ask how is pacman the no.1?

yea he has moved up in weight and stuff, but some of the opponents he has faced recently are nothing to shout about.

david diaz was a solid fighter, but the gulf in class was almost funny.
and a "shock" win over de la hoya? yea right,he was old, weight drained and shot.

he drew against against marquez(all be it a bit of a **** decision)and lost to morales.i know he won the other two but still he lost.

and he got knocked out a few times earlier on in his career too.

hatton only lost to the best fighter in the last 10 years. and i think in his last eight fights he has fought seven world champs...

a case could be made for either one not to be no.1. i just think if you beat the best you become the best!

Hatton goes to no2 on the p4p list if he beats Manny. How could Pacquaio still be ahead if he loses to him? Hatton is a massive underdog for this fight.

For Hatton to be no1, he has to beat Pacquaio, then Marquez. If he does that, he will have a great record.
