A thread that i was browsing yesterday questioned why old skool fighters get more credit than today's fighters... This prompted me to look at highlights of sugar ray robinson... Is it just me or i just thought he had little defense? He was the most excellent in offense but his defense is not as good... (judging from the highlights) You agree boys?

ray was never a slickster
you were most likely watching videos of him in his 30's as a middleweight, by then his reflexes had declined somewhat and he relied on his chin a lot more than he used to, but he was never known for whitaker like defence in the first placeComment

I really hope that was a joke, cause if it wasnt you dont understand boxing or fighting in the slightest.
Anyway Robinson certainly wasnt the greatest defensive master that ever lived. He often used his offensive skills for defense, and had excellent feet to get him out of trouble. But yeah, the guy definitely got hit by jabbers.Comment

Sugar Ray Robinson was 133-2 in his prime prior to retiring. Please name me a fighter that had a better record?
Then, when he was past his prime and came back out of retirement for money that's when he accumulated 19 losses (though close to 200 wins) because he was old and fighting in many weight classes above where he should be.
Once again, I ask anyone here, please name me a fighter who had a better record than 133-2 in their prime prior to their retirement?Comment
