Is it safe to say that we've underrated Marquez's power?

I was thinking this earlier. It seems his power has became more apparent at 135, maybe he's sitting down on shots more, hoping for KOs to lure Pac to fight..? I dunno.

But for sure, we've been underestimating his power!

I don't think it's power so much as it's accumulation of punches. Marquez hits you very flush with very crisp power shots, his precision is unmatched in the boxing world right now. And if he's able to land close to 200 shots on you, over the course of a fight, you better believe it's going to add up.

His pop is underrated a little bit, because he does have some. But these 2 straight KO's over 'Casa and Diaz I attribute to clean, crisp, flush counters landed over the course of the fight.

I did for sure, I did not think that JMM would knockout Diaz. JMM winning was not a suprise but the way in which he did it was pretty shocking. I have to give him a ton of credit for doing something I did not think he could do.

I thought that Diaz would win because he is the type of fighter that makes fighter feel their age, but it looked like JMM was the one that was comming on as the fight wore on. How can you not be impressed massively with that, I do not know.

I will will not doubt JMM again, atleast until he gives me a reason to doubt him.

I think Marquez could carry his power up to 140,his punching technique is superb, and that aids the power of his shots

Fact is, Marquez for the second fight in a row took out to fighters who had never been taken out. Clearly, this guy has some pop in his punch.
marquez' power is not that great. its his combination punching and accuracy that is dangerous.

              I agree.

But lets not forget, he is the brother of another boxer who has pop in his punches,

Rafa Marquez, so its not really surprising.

I think Marquez packs more of a punch than some expect. I'd say it's more his technique and accuracy though.

I think we've underrated his power in terms of talking about it. In nearly every article you read about Manny moving up in weight, it usually follows with, he's maintained his power and this is what's making him so great as he moves up. Well...Marquez is same. He's maintained his power in each weight class and looks even stronger as he goes up. Just doesn't get the same credit as Manny because I guess, people haven't yet taken into his style, but I think they will now.

I think, overall, he's an underrated fighter in terms of how he adapts. He adapted to the left hook of Diaz, and blocked. He couldn't land clean with the straight shots, so he goes up the middle with a snapping uppercut. He knew he couldn't counter punch all night, so he kept putting a thud into his shots as the fight wore on. And he knew his accumilation of punches would add up.

All in all, he just adapts so well.

Also, this is EXACTLY the way that he will get the credit he deserves. Boxing smart, beautifully and getting stoppages agaisnt durable fighters. He's making sure he is remembered as a great FIGHTER, **** that 'great Mexican fighter' bull****.

Nobody ever accused him of bein a soft puncher. It's just that his counterpunchin style don't usually connotate vicious KO power. He hurts guys by placin good shots cleanly over a period of rds. he focuses more on offense and power nowadays, but I still wouldn't call him a dangerous puncher, just a respectable one.
