  • Is it safe to say that we've underrated Marquez's power?

He moved out of his natural weight class and KO'd 2 top lightweights that have NEVER been KO'd before. I dont wanna hear none of this "Casa was washed up and old" and "Diaz was cut so he didnt know how to react to Marquez's power shots" bull*****.

Fact is, Marquez for the second fight in a row took out to fighters who had never been taken out. Clearly, this guy has some pop in his punch.

Nah it's the accruacy with the shots they couldn't see coming. Both the Casamayor and Diaz fights, they never saw the shot coming.

But it's certainly made me respect Pacquiao's chin more.

I think he got stronger as he got up in weight

JMMs tremendous technical skills just overshadowed his power
        its debatable though..

on one hand, maybe because his previous opponents got good chins
        or
on the other, that he utilizes his skills (i.e. countering) during fights

his 30+ KO wins under his belt must mean something imo though...

I slightly disagree, I agree with the fact point about the accuracy, but its not just that, technically the way he throws his hooks and uppercuts, he really turns his hips and distributes his body weight perfectly, it allows him to generate a lot of turn and momentum in those shots, beautiful to watch.

To answer the thread yes I personally underestimated his power. Maybe one of the reasons why pac didn't rush him and unload so many combinations like against other fighters

I guess, but I wouldn't say Marquez hits harder then Corrales or even Fretias. Both who were unsuccessful at KOIng Casamayor and Diaz (well Corrales didn't fight Diaz, but yeah).

I underestimated his power, but I wouldn't say Marquez is a strong puncher. It's his accuracy that gets the job done.

Ive said before Marquez has power, the accuracy is a factor but he's a pretty strong lightweight as it is. Pacquaiao (in his prime) has never had a beating like the one Marquez gave him and I think its odd not many people have focused on this even though much bigger guys have failed to come close to giving Pac a beating like that.

Yeah I agree he doesn't have the natural power of freitas or corrales but marquez did start his career at featherweight where id say he was a big puncher.

I would still class him as a strong puncher at lightweight but not a big puncher no
