Does the fact that an interview with Mayweather was in say The New York Times rather than the BBC somehow make it suspect?
The Guardian and the BBC are, in the UK, equivalent to the New York Times and ABC in the US - they have international reputations for high quality journalism and for fact checking everything. There is nothing biased about the articles, they are just straight interviews with Hatton.
Talk about clutching at straws.
It matters only in the sense that someone accused Hatton of ducking, very unfairly IMO.
But okay, here's one from the US - from CNN, just after the Maussa fight, in November 2005:Graham added that Hatton now wanted to fight WBC champion Floyd Mayweather (35-0) in the United States.
"He's a great fighter and you've got to go in against the best. The boxing world is screaming out for it."
That's hardly asking to wait two years is it? Happy now?
Obviously you arent familiar with the term "Two sides to every story".
That said.....all of your articles being from the UK that you keep using as "proof" they called Mayweather out, youre forgetting the fact that fights are made for more reasons than some guy saying he wants to fight another guy. Money being the main reason.
Money is MOST LIKELY the reason the fight wasnt made at that time. Like I said Frank Warren didnt want to lose his cash cow. Hatton broke from him and WOW they actually made the fight.
THE REASON THE FIGHT WASNT MADE AT 140= FRANK WARREN.
The fight was made and Hatton= KTFOLast edited by Xcusemymood; 03-04-2009, 01:35 AM.

since this has been argued to death, anyone whos been following boxing close enough knows that mayweather indeed did try to get hatton in 04/05 and then again in 06 when ricky hatton won his title at 147 against collazo, he then said he would defend against oktay urkal, instead he vacated and went BACK to 140.
In 04/05 Mayweather tried very hard to get a fight with hatton in particular after he finished his buisness with Gatti, Hatton and his team ADMITTED they needed more time to take on mayweather and elected to carlos maussa. Like i said as much as this has been beaten to death, its been readily proven that Hatton ducked mayweather openly until they finally did fight, years later, when the fight should have happened when hatton held the linear 140 championship and floyd held the wbc at 140.
Also, major news outlets arent good gauges on boxing, they dont cover it that comprehensively, this place, ********** and a few other sites are far better because they basically track every quote/comment that comes out of a fighters mouth. There are more insiders here than there are in the actual sports publications in many cases.Last edited by El Jesus; 03-04-2009, 02:50 AM.

I appreciate you didn't say that Hatton ducked Mayweather - but several other people did, without any evidence to back them up apart from a claim by one of Mayweather's advisers, which I consider highly suspect considering it was strongly contradicted by Hatton himself at that time. And I'm not saying Mayweather ducked Hatton either - I think it's a shame he chose to move up and fight Judah rather than stay at Jnr Welterweight in order to fight Hatton at that weight, but I don't think he was ducking him, I think he was just more excited about fighting Judah, for whatever reason. Arguably Judah was the tougher fight anyway.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-04-2009, 05:16 PM.

I have checked every single boxingscene.com article written in 2005 that mentions Hatton and Mayweather, and not one of them says anything about Mayweather having tried to get a fight with Hatton (although I found two that criticised him for fighting Mitchell rather than Hatton); and not one that said Hatton had said he wanted to wait two years. On the other hand here's a quote from boxingscene.com from Hatton in November 2005 making it clear he wanted to fight Mayweather at Jnr. Welterweight, and was willing to fight him in the States:
"Some of the best pound for pound fighters are in my division and I am looking forward to more fantastic wins and fantastic nights. The thought of fighting the best is what keeps me going in the sport. I said from day one I wanted to fight the best and I look forward to coming to America to fight them too. I will go anywhere to fight. I would definitely fight Floyd Mayweather in the States. No problem."Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-04-2009, 05:12 PM.

And Hatton invited Mayweather to be ringside at the Maussa fight in order to create interest in a fight between them in early 2006, and Mayweather declined the invitation - that's fact.
