  • Name one black fighter who has a following

Black fighters always fight in hostile territories.Even an American black fighter fighting in his own home town will find himself without any support.People will cheer for the Mexican, the Russian, the Puerto Rican or anyone else who is not black.

Can anyone name one black fighter who has a following,a fighter with real fans who will actually go to see him fight and not losing.

They don't really. Since boxing is no longer popular in African American community as it used to be. The black boxer always has to play the villains. Mexicans, Ricans, British and Europeans support their fighter under the name of their country. African Americans are not patriotic because how they were treated years ago. They don’t have a banner to come under and also being of low socio-economic status doesn’t help.

Sugar Ray Leonard & Roy Jones Jnr.

Floyd Mayweather couldn't fill a venue without a name opposite him.

If Tyson came back to fight a decent name he would definitely sell out an arena the way he did years ago, but of course most of them attending would be casual fans( and celebrities) who wouldn't realize the fact that hes shot to pieces.

We're not talking about Morales. Bringing him into weakens your argument. Or maybe you might realize you don't have one.

We're not talking about Floyd either, the question was black fighters with a following, if Floyd can't sell out arenas like you say he can't why bring him into the thread

                  Stay on topic son

Do you mean "following" by people of their own race or just followings in general?

There aren't usually many black people in the venues watching fights live, but the few that are, are always rooting for the black fighter as are many of the white and latino fans.

Every big name black fighter has a large "following." From the late 60's through the early 90's most of the Champions were black and defending against other black contenders and they always had large followings.

Only in the last 10-15 years has there been less support for black fighters as boxing has become so much more diverse since 1990 with the fall of the Soviet Union.

This is an odd question since most of the boxing "superstars" have been black, so they obviously had large "followings." A better question would be to name one black superstar that didn't have a large "following?" Without a "following" they wouldn't have become superstars!
