Mayweather Wants $20 Million For Pacquiao, Mosley Bouts

Mosley wanted to go back down to the welterweight division he once dominated after the first fight, but the rematch kept him at junior middleweight (Fernando Vargas). Now, he intends to go back to 147 pounds.

Waiting for him could be a mega fight against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather would like the fight in November, but Mosley said he doesn't even plan to resume training until November.

"You know Antonio Margarito is out there waiting to fight Floyd," said Mosley, who earned about $4 million plus a percentage of pay-per-view profits. "Those guys should fight each other and we can fight next year. The only thing I know is my tooth is a little lose and I might have to go to the dentist."

Give Floyd his $ because he earned it.

After Mayweather agreed on financial terms -- a purse of at least $10 million that will probably increase to between $15 million and $18 million once the pay-per-view numbers are tallied -- he gave in to De La Hoya on every point just to get him in the ring.

Gloves? De La Hoya wanted Reyes brand, the "puncher's glove." Even though Mayweather always wears Winning brand, which better protects his brittle hands, he agreed.

"I can't wear the gloves I want to wear, but he can wear the gloves he wants to wear, so he said, 'Let's put that in the contract.' So I said, 'OK, no problem.'"

Then there was the weight. Mayweather preferred to fight at welterweight (147 pounds), where he is champion. De La Hoya, who holds a title at junior middleweight (154) insisted that Mayweather come up to his weight. Again, Mayweather agreed.

The fight is one Mayweather says he has wanted his entire career. In fact, Mayweather said, he remembers seeing De La Hoya win a 1992 gold medal and thinking someday they would fight. Mayweather was still four years away from receiving an Olympic bronze medal.

"There was only so long he could duck me," Mayweather said. "There was only so long he could dodge me. In 1992, I knew this was going to happen.

"I knew this was going to happen when I signed with Top Rank. That's why I never got close to Oscar, because I knew we were going to fight."

Mayweather said he can't stand that De La Hoya gives him so little credit for the success of the promotion of the fight.

"I make a fight like this. I'm the one selling this fight," Mayweather said. "I need a good dance partner, he needs a good dance partner."

Said De La Hoya, "You need a great opponent to make it a big event. I would have to say it's a 70-30 split. He's contributing 30 percent. I'm contributing 70 percent to this promotion."

De La Hoya's estimate of how much each fighter is contributing to the promotion coincidentally matches the revenue split between the fighters.

While De La Hoya might not give Mayweather much credit publicly for making the event, his actions speak louder than words. This is the first fight in which De La Hoya is allowing his opponent to have a percentage of the revenue instead of a flat fee and a share of the pay-per-view profits. Mayweather is participating in all of the revenue streams.

Damn, DLH is greedy. As if he didn't bring enough money every time he fought, he hadn't given his opponents a split on the PPV revenue until Mayweather?! That's insane.

I disagree, he gets people to buy PPV, which is more importent then asses in seats.

Any fighter makes more money when they are matched up with big stars~, it is a pretty simple concept, it takes 2 to make a mega fight.

I think you have a point, but it realy had more to do with Hatton and Delahoya than Floyd. Sure the public wanted to see PBF get beat due to his mouth running, etc... but the mainstream fan was involved because Oscar and Hatton were. The proof was in the facts. Oscar has always sold well worldwide. Hatton has always sold well in the UK and has started to in the US. Hatton brought more buys in Europe (1.4 mil in a much smaller continent) than Floyd did in the US (850-950k). That alone shows which fighter comanded the revenue's. I agree that Floyd is truly an elite and great fighter, he just doesn't deserve 20 million a fight. Nowhere near that even. He brings skill but not the huge fanbase he thinks he does. He never sold well prior to Hatton and Delahoya and the proof is there for the gander.

It's true but when Oscar De La Hoya fought Steve Forbes them #'s weren't booming like that? Or when Hatton fought Pauli Malignaggi, them #'s weren't booming like that? These are Floyd's exact words:

It takes TWO to sell a MEGA fight & without Mayweather fighting Oscar or Hatton then it would not have done them #'s like that.
