Eddie Futch and Angelo Dundee are two of the very best trainers of all time.
Futch trained four out of the five men to defeat Ali (Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes, and Trevor Berbick) and also worked in the corner for Bob Foster, Mike McCallum, Alexis Arguello, Michael Spinks, Marlon Starling and Rid**** Bowe.
Dundee trained Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Jose Napoles, George Foreman, Jimmy Ellis, Carmen Basilio and Luis Rodriguez.
no. hes a great trainer no dought about it. but Eddy Futch and angalo Dundee are there best of all time. Today id take Floyd Sr. and roach before him. id say hes in the top 5 today...
Dundee is slightly overrated as a trainer. Fantastic cornerman and very solid trainer, but he didn't make most of the fighters he's most famous for training what they were, he merely took over where others had left off and kept them consistent while providing invaluable advice. In terms of refining their skills, I'm somewhat more skeptical. One of the best, but not quite on the level of an Arcel or a Futch in my opinion.
