A fans perspective for a fighter. But in reality a fighter would have the opposite. Would you want to be Joe Louis?.....a fighter who begged for money, a legend who died with nothing except his legendary status. Or Max Schmelling...the fighter who helped Joe Louis through tough times. Max isn't exactly a legend, but did well with his money.

Your legendary status doesn't feed you.

That said most top end boxers are very well paid.

The mega-money fights are what is quickly killing boxing. Fights like Pac/DLH, DLH/Floyd, DLH/Hopkins. Fighters going after the most cheese, not giving a **** about legacy. Why can't a fighter go after both?

You can't become a legend if you're not good. When your good people usually pay more to see you fight.

Its simple. If Joe fought today he'd be rich.

Now how these boxers manage their money is a different story

You get rich f#ck that legend ****. There have been many good boxers who could really fight and never got the big money fights. So when the retire they end up with bull**** jobs because they old and don't have any real world work experience. Always take the money when it is there. There is no proof that just because you reach elite status that the money will be there. Because you can reach elite status and be avoided. You can be elite and not make money because you are not popular. If you are popular you will make big money. IMO Castillo was a better fighter than Gatti but who made more money?

in fact, one of the few times i rooted for Zab was when he accepted close to nothing in his rematch with spinks...it didnt matter that the fight was in St Louis...all he wanted was to get the fight done and get his belts back...
I have to admit, I do respect Zab for that as he knew he would take Spinks out and have better paydays

Take the $$$, legacy don't feed the family. The ideal situation is legacy with $$$, u might not have the best legacy u could have getting $$$, but that don't replae having stacks and being straigh for life. Get da $$$ mane!!!

You can have all the money in the world, but you can still lose it if you ain't sensible.

Tyson, 350 million down the pan. What more do people have to do.

No-one would have money if they wern't sensible.
