If you're so confident you'll succeed, the money would come anyway.

So if you was a boxer with no guaranteed form of income, you would reject £1.5, 13 fight contract?

This is getting ridiculous, to the point where I'm prepared to defend DeGale even though I don't particularly like him as a fighter.

The hate for him before his first fight is out of line. If you don't like his style; fine, don't watch him. If you don't think he'll make a good pro; fine, say so and move on. Seems to me like the fighters attacking him are a little jealous they didn't get the start he's getting. Why can't they support their fellow countryman and hope he adapts his amateur style to the pro-game?

DeGale probably shouldn't be reacting so publicly to these comments, but how many of you wouldn't react if someone was talking smack about you? I don't think DeGale will be much more than a high end domestic level fighter who maybe picks up an alphabet belt at some point, but I'm a little disgusted at the hate he's getting.

If I was an Olympic gold-medallist telling the world/(believing(?)) I'll definitely be a pro-superstar world champ, yeah.

The point is, why say it if you don't truly believe it?

And if it's your No.1. ambition to be pro world champion, why be a millionaire first?

The fact of the matter is

When someone offers constructive criticsm or advice to degale he takes it as a personal assault on his boxing ability / pride, he just needs to stop being so paranoid and jumping at shadows.

There was absolutely nothing constructive about what Eubank said.

"James, make sure you don't let the money and hype go to your head, it's a real danger" would be constructive. "James, you're a hyped up fighter who will crash and burn" is just hate. "Be careful you don't lose your focus" would be constructive; "you will inevitably lose your focus" is just hate.

Having said that, I agree that DeGale needs to ignore the haters, stop responding publicly, and just concentrate on proving himself in the ring. And I completely agree with timba1988's analysis of Warren's appalling matchmaking. I think the fact that he's tied to Warren and his lousy matchmaking strategy is much more potentially damaging than the £1.5m contract is.
