I just mean the Army brought boxing to PR, and PR boxing was founded by the United States of America, and PRs go through American (now Mexican) ranks.

As an American, someday I would like them to decide one way or the other and not have the halfway thing. They do contribute to America though, and it is their choice in the long run, either way.

Puerto Ricio is a beutiful place though, I vacation there over other caribean Islands solely because they are a part of the US, ****ed up **** can happean anywhere, but in Puerto Rico I can relax much easier.

I think we should embrace each other more, as nations and brothers.

You should be proud of the fact that you are an American citizen. You can embrace the culture and legacy of your people, without saying things like "I'm not American!".

And we as Americans should embrace your Nation and it's people more, in diplomatic and economic affairs.

i am not saying that the current status is a bad thing.but people get tired of *******s like black irish thinking THEY OWN US when in fact, we are the ones who want to keep it this way.it benefits the both of us as a nation,althou i don't agree with some of the laws.

I like the way I tried to make a little peace in this thread a few posts back. Saying that Puerto Ricans should embrace their culture and heritage but also embrace the fact that they are Americans, and that Americans should do more to embrace Puerto Rico and it's people.....yet nobody responded.

For the record, America has a fine history of producing great boxing Champions. The misconception is that there is no good American fighters out there now, a simple look at the top 10 P4P would show that Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins are both in the top 5.

The only other nation that has more fighters in the top 10 right now is Mexico, with Vazquez, and the Marquez brothers.

How did Mosley climb so high after beating Margarito? I see a lot of people who have him in their top 5 and it completely baffles me.

As for Hopkins: He's borderline top 5 - anywhere between 7 and 4 is suitable for him.

Basketball and Boxing
The military government banned ****fighting and bullfighting from the island but introduced the sport of boxing and a "new" sport called basketball. Both boxing and basketball were used by the soldiers as part of their physical training. Boxing competitions amongst the soldiers were open to the public. The first boxing match in Puerto Rico was held on January 15, 1899.

When the soldiers played basketball, they would use a plain straw basket which was cut open at both ends and place it on the highest end of a pole. For a ball, they used a football and the game was played without any established set of rules.
