Bob Arum could go either way on this one. Joshua Clottey is a easier fight to make but he could possibly market the kermit cintron match better. I think it makes more sense to try to unify the belts in the division and being that Clottey is represented by Top Rank that should be the fight to make. After Cotto/Clottey then Cintron could fight the winner of that because then it would be two belts on the line. I think it's meaningless for Cotto to fight Cintron in June especially since he just fought a soft match like the one he fought against Michael Jennings. People say Clottey is not a big enough name but then get Cotto to fight Jennings? Cintron should fight Quintana or Collazo in the meantime.

sorry but it took william 8 more rounds than cotto to beat quintana. you have to remember that he went 12 round outboxing william and then william beat him in a rematch

doesn't the man have an urge to UNIFY and be undisputed WW king?

Imagine Evander Holyfield turning down a unification bout, that would never happen. Now, that man was great.....

agree. why would cotto waste a fight when he could grab one of those belt.

It would be nice to have a ww tournament with the four champs as they all do want a shot at each other. But this is boxing and whats smart doesnt always happen. Berto, mosely, miguel, and clottey would create good fan matchups no matter who fought who, i just hope they dont bring cintron into the mix..hes a bum. Clottey is hungry and has a good chin, id be weary of that fight but miguel is a better boxer.

But all of the other top WW's Cotto has been fighting. The easier fights Cotto has taken were all understanable. They were either setup fights for Mega Events i.e. Alfredo Gomez, comign off a loss i.e. Jennings and 1 mandatory i.e. Urkal.

Judah, Quintana, Mosley, Margarito were all solid opponents at the time. And if you say No then tell me who would've been an Alternative to any of them at the time.
Ok we understand that Cotto fought some guys at WW but now it is clear that Arum is giving him soft touch fights. I believe that if Cotto would have fought someone like Clottey before he fought Margarito instead of Gomez that Cotto would of had a better chance against Margarito's pressure. People are clearly making excuses for Cotto not fighting elite guys.

Miguel Cotto is an elite fighter he needs to fight the WW guys with titles. I see on this thread people are trying to avoid the fact that Bob Arum, Top Rank and or Miguel Cotto is ducking Shane Mosley. It's been documented that Molsey wanted a rematch with Cotto ever since the first fight & Cotto's team never wanted to. Forget PBF this is about Miguel Cotto and right now he is being babied.

Cotto would retire Mosely in a rematch. The guy is a sitting duck.

I think it has more to do with Cotto having his heart set on that date in MSG. If Mosley was willing to come to NY, I think that fight could definitely be made.

But I don't blame Mosley for not wanting to fight at MSG, and I don't blame Cotto for wanting that date. It's ok, they'll take another fight and fight a huge fight in the fall. There's no "ducking" here.

I agree with grustler.cotto has a great resume.every fighter has an off night & they occationally take an east fight to stay active or maybe for whatever reason there isn't a top opponent available at the time
