Will it sell out or will it be friends and family night like the Phillips fight? I think there won't be many people in the arena that night. Neither Winky nor Williams are popular gate attractions.

Though the same can be said of Clottey, who fought in Brooklyn last year, his neck of the woods, and it wasn't sold out.

Some fighters just aren't good at promoting. Some guys, like Pacquiao, have the talent and ethnic appeal to promote themselves. Others just aren't doing it right or aren't being promoted properly.

The more people see Williams exciting power punching...non stop throing style his fanbase will grown...and he will fight anyone..that sure helps.

Here is the thing, he has fans, he is recognized as one of the sport's best fighters, has beaten Margarito and won an interim belt at 154, he has a fanbase (yourself included).

But it's more than that, its about being able to push tickets with your personality and marketing savvy. Look at a club fighter like John Duddy or Pawel Wolak, guys like them can push tickets. They aren't the greatest of fighters by any stretch but the fans love them and having them on your card guarantees good gate receipts.

With Paul Williams, his selling power hasn't caught up with his skill and purse demands. Winky Wright has been plagued by a similar problem. If not for TV money, this fight wouldn't happen.

Fighters have to understand that talent does not equal money, it's more than that.

EXACTLY. At this point that is what he needs to do. He was sitting back waiting for someone to call him out but it's not going to happen that way. Clottey needs to clean house and get a new personality & start talking smack to these guys. While Cotto is getting interviewed in the ring after tonight's fight he should walk in and take the mic & say "WHY WON'T YOU FIGHT ME"? Only Cotto has the privilege to get the fights he wants because his team is supportive despite the friction between him & his uncle. Clottey needs a good nucleus until then he has to be his own voice.

He brings more money from TV, TV wants Paul Williams because he is a good fighter. Duddy is a phenomenal gate attraction, Wolak to a lesser extent. But you put a Duddy fight in The Garden and you have Paul Williams fight in South Carolina or LA, wherever he's based out of, and Duddy will have the better gate numbers.

Even a guy like Pazienza, he was amazing in New England. There may have been greater fighters than him, but he could probably outsell them on any given night. Arturo Gatti as well.

Good point, I guess Williams is not the most avoided fighter then, seeing as he has a fight.

the reason josh is being avoided is because he is too much risk no reward period.
