I pretty much agree, I never really saw why Williams was "the biggest threat" to Mayweather, unless they were just refering to his physical size. If Williams was a better boxer or actually used his height properly (not fight inside all the time) I would see people's point, but he doesn't on either account.

Would you expect some random American to know that? I know a little about the Phillipines but my knowledge is limited (and I am well educated), but apart from like the Spanish American War and World War 2 I doubt the Phillipines comes up much in school (atleast from a historical prospecitve).

I could see why someone that did not know would ask.
