Im also concerned about the fact that the fight is in Houston AND the fact that HBO wants to hype up "their" prospects(juan diaz was featured in their highlights)

if this fight is not an ass whooping, marquez is gonna get robbed.....

its the range they fight at though....

jmm is not particularly fast on his feet, he is a slow starter, his fights are generally slow paced, his jab is great but not really a wall to keep people off him, more like a range finder to set up his accurate power punches, his defense is leaky now that he is losing reflexes and wanting to be a more crowd pleasing fighter, he is very small at 5'5''(those 5'7'' HBO numbers are BS, he is the same size as his brother if youve seen em standing together) and this is only his 5th fight out of 126(and he usually came very light into his 130lb fights, indicating he is a natural featherweight).......

diaz is not that fast either, but he fights at a frantic pace for all 12 rounds, he uses an effective jab to get inside and he also has a decent midrange jab to circle around his opponents and jump on them when theyre off balance, his defense is leaky too, but he has shown respectable durability, he is the naturally bigger man, and his style relies heavily on physicality.....

that all just spells trouble for a man who cant jab and move at a high pace nor outhustle the opponent with physicality on the inside..........

the thing that can negate all this things is the fact that marquez is so skilled and accurate and diaz' defense is not his strong point.......JMM desperately needs to have enough power to keep Diaz out of his range, keep him honest, make him hesitant, slow him down, keep the fight at his range and pace for most of the time.......because otherwise, the style advantage is just overwhelming......

I think Diaz's defense is pretty underrated. He's open to the body, but he doesn't take that many punches to the face for a person with his style.

I still think Marquez's counters will keep Diaz off him. Marquez needs to go to the body to be most effective. Still, it'll be a pretty close fight.
