Asked in the above video when he knew Pacquiao would win, trainer Freddie Roach answered (video h/t: Boxing FanHouse): "Before the fight started. When he gained two pounds [from 145 to 147] between the weigh-in and fight time." In an earlier point in the interview, Roach said: "I saw the IV in his arm, I saw the IV marks, it was fresh tape, they hydrated him too late, they waited too long to hydrate him. It was nothing illegal... The thing was, they couldn't get anything into his system... Nobody let him build his body back up. They did it to themselves

I'm very aware of all that, thanks though, good link. Freddie's become one of my favourite trainers and a lot due to some insights like the above.

"That is a misconception," Schaefer said. "When he weighed 145 (at the weigh-in), he took off his shoes and he took off his gear and he weighed 145. The night of the fight when he came into the venue, they put him on an HBO scale and he came in with his shoes and his jacket and the hood and the whole thing and he was 147.

"Well, you take that off and he's still 145 or maybe less. Maybe less. Because the shoes, the whole thing, it's at least two pounds. So he actually didn't gain a thing. He gained zip, zero."

Schaefer said that De La Hoya's system was such that he couldn't even gain weight by drinking fluids after he weighed in.

"One of the doctors who was there was telling me Oscar was not even able after the weigh-in to retain water," Schaefer said. "Just with drinking water or Gatorade after the weigh-in, you usually move up. You gain two or three pounds (just) like that.

If there's a fair chance for you to win, play the odds and take your losses on that straight and narrow.

If he would've lost to Rockhands, there would've been no shame in that - he was the 2nd best at 147. However, losing to Manny P, there was GREAT shame in that.
THere is absolutely no way that Margarito was a bigger money fight for Oscar. No way in hell. Please realise this.

This is why I say this..

Marg came off a huge fight with Cotto and would've been considered an equal against DLH and this would've reflected in buys. The DLH-Pac fight was loaded with fan disinterest from day one, and although it did excellent, excellent numbers it was hurt by the oversized "bully" stigma Oscar caused. I shudder to think what the buy rate would've looked like if people felt the fight was a 50/50 affair instead of 90/10 in favor of Oscar before the 24/7 shows.

With PPV buy numbers it really doesn't come down to how us hardcore boxing fans feel about the fight. Hell, half the guys on here don't even seem to buy any PPVs.

It is the public, the casual fan, and they are drawn in by the names. Pacquiao is a far far far bigger name than Antonio Margarito. This is the determining factor, not the merit of the fight.

Marg-Oscar would have done nowhere near as well as the Oscar-Pac fight did PPV wise. That is a fact.
