Same with the gloves. Hey, it's not like the fighter is in another room when HIS hands are being taped. It is the fighter's responsiblity not to cheat. I'm sorry, but this incident makes Margarcheato a cheater.
which is why i said he deserves a 6 months suspension whether it was intentional or not or whether he knew about it or not because it was dangerous what could have happened. of course if he knew about it then he would deserve a much longer suspension. and of course its possible that he could have no idea what capetillo was doing to his gloves. like i mentioned earlier all Capetillo had to say was Tony im going to put this on you to protect your hands its legal (Capetillo lying). Again do you really think Tony or any other boxer is gonna question his trainer??? No they are focusing on their fights and training! and if they hear its gonna help protect them then with much less reason they are gonna question it especially since Tony trusts Capetillo! and actually its the trainers responsibility not to cheat because they are the ones who wrap the hands. Now if Margarito knew what Capetillo was doing then he is cheating and should be punished. my problem is that nobody knows for sure if he knew or not and yet everyone is ready to hang the guy its not right!

The test results won't be back until mid-March. What the trainer was found guilty of by the commission was that his knuckle pads had been moistened, which is illegal. The Commission didn't find him guilty of using plaster or any other illegal substance other than water (although depending on the test results, that verdict could be revised later).

What's done it's done and Manny has the right to give his opinion. He is always a gentlemen that's way he is always "impress" with every fighter that wins in a fight he is commenting on. If you ask me he is too much of a gentlemen and hardly ever says anything critical - this at times brings nothing to the team of commentators.

                  Dondi330... I agree with you a 100%.

There're people talking about the burden of proof and technicalities, but the fact is that the reason many posters have a lot of common sense is because they don't use it.... EVER. Two hand wraps, with an old gauze that happened to be wet and he was "unaware"! If anything else, he deserves the suspencio for ******ity.

Anyway, a year for a fighter at his level is not that much time out. He has only average 2 fights per year since 2004. So to him he will only miss one payday, which after Cotto/Mosley will probably do his body well. However, his legacy is tarnish and if he decides to fight in Mexico, he might give the folks here an excuse why not to give him his license back on 2010.

So Margo, cross your finger that nothing is found on the wraps and take a long vacation.

that's the thing, nobody got seriously hurt, so that's not a fair example......you don't get the death penalty for ATTEMTED MURDER.....

And who are we to disagree with him. Have you been around thousands of handwraps and hundreds of fighters being wrapped? Because I'm pretty sure he is.

All I'm saying is, to call the guy an idiot when most of us havent even seen a boxer's hand wrapped, is pretty idiotic in itself.
i always thought the trainer would get a harsher penalty anyway, what steward said was fine with me......

hell, ****m richardson even said that tony wasn't concerned the least bit when he asked for a re-wrap......it is plausible margarito didn't know the substance was illegal. i'm not a margarito fan by the way, i'm actually one of his biggest detractors.....but i would've been fine had HE recieved a less harsh penalty than the trainer, unless it could be PROVEN he knew exactly what was going on, and thus far there has been no proof to illustrate that fact.

I think everyone from Steward, Arum, and Cotto are jumping the gun a bit in saying the punishment is too severe or not severe enough. Lets just all wait till March when we know exactly what the substance was and then go from there.

If the substance is nothing more than guaze and extra tape I would tend to agree with Steward and Arum since Margo most likely didnt know what his trainer was doing and since he has never had an issue with his wraps in the past, Margo had no reason to suspect anything illegal was taking place. If it is just the guaze and tape I would expect the suspension be held at a year for his trainer and cut in half for Margo.

If the substance is plaster though his suspension will be a lifetime ban and Arum, Steward, and anyone else complaining about a year long suspension being too severe will have egg on their face. Steward may be right about Margo not noticing a difference between legit handwraps and handwraps with extra guaze and tape but there is no way in hell Margo didnt know the diffence with a plaster cast on the end of his knuckles.
