Why In The World Should Floyd Fight Shane "Now"?

I used to think it was about fighting the best, but... it's really not. Most fighters always go after the biggest payday. Ever wonder why people have been calling Oscar out time after time after time? Wright, right after he lost to Hopkins, called Oscar a great fighter and said he wanted to fight him, right after De La Hoya lost to Mayweather. Margarito called out Oscar after he beat Cotto. Cotto was very excited to fight ODLH after the ODLH-Mayweather 2 thing fell apart.
You wonder why Pacquiao is fighting Hatton instead of a welterweight and why Floyd did the same? I would bet it's not because he is better and a tougher challenge than all the WW fighters, but probably because of the paycheck he brings in.
There are very few fighters who are willing to fight the best and not worry about money, and I have all the respect for them in the world... Nate Campbell for one.Comment

they calling him out not just for the money, but because he was known as the best pound for pound fighter. So who ever beats him will be seen as one of the top 3 fighters and perhaps the the best pound for pound fighter. Though I never thought he beat enough big name fighters to earn that name.Comment

Are you new to the sport?

2. And apart from the DLH/Hatton fights, you give me some evidence of Mayweather being a huge attraction?
3. Pac isn't a welterweight fighter, he's far too small. Putting him in with the likes of Cotto/Mosley would not be sensible. Despite this, Roach went on record stating that Pacquiao believes he could beat Margarito at 147. Pretty big balls for a fighter who started at flyweight.Comment

1. Don't patronise, I'm fully aware how much money influences the sport. I'm just pointing out that Mayweather once said to be the best you have to beat the best. And also said he would beat anyone at 154 and under. Funny how that has changed?

2. He clearly has worked his way up in the draw category... his PPV with Baldomir did much better than it should have though, so that can be an example, because his opponent was an 11 loss Argentine journeyman with no fanbase, at all. I think after the ODLH fight, he became a really big draw. Nationalistic, racial pride and the fact that he is the best has really vaulted his popularity IMO.
3. Mayweather isn't really a WW fighter either if that is your criteria... at the age of 16, they were the same size, it's just Mayweather was in the ams and Pacquiao had already turned pro. Either way, a third fight with Marquez or someone like Nate Campbell would do more for Pacquiao's legacy than Hatton IMO, but those guys just don't bring in the same type of paycheck that Hatton does, so... that's why he is going after them.Comment

No I agree, Mayweather isn't a WW. But if you are going to claim that you beat anybody <154, you should back up your claims with fights!Comment

Pacquiao said he could beat Margarito, and he's the biggest WW... he should be held accountable to fight Mosley and Cotto under that logic, right?Comment

ridiculous, how every time there a good challenge for mayw , they come with he excuse "oh no that fighter is not a big draw" , does us as fan get a share of that draw on a fight if is a big draw?Comment

2) dlh and hatton could not have made those big paydays (the biggest in both careers) if it was not floyd as the opponentComment

Floyds legacy, he has beaten no one. Yet hes ranked in the top 100. But, it wouldn't make sense to fight Mosley, because it'd be another old guy. That's what leads us to Berto, and Cotto. He should not beable to retire in like two more years, but the boxing commuinty, belives in him. FDor some reason, when I think of Floyd, I think of Hector Camacho, bad mental pictures.
sure i guess.. whatever floats your boatComment
