I'm going to start a thread the day before the fight asking what credit Hatton and pac deserve if they win, it should be interesting.
Hatton's Co-Trainer Says Pacquiao Will Be in For a Shock

FINALLY! someone who has an understanding on the whole subject. Pacquiao IS NOT stronger than Hatton & WILL NOT coming into the fight with Hatton at his NATURAL weight at 140. Pacquiao is a tough, fast, aggressive, offensive fighter but he is not this complete boxer that people make him out to be & barely has ANY defense & is often off balance & throws punches with his eyes closed at times. People will argue that he has improved since then well so has Hatton. I just can't see Pacquiao dominating this fight, win perhaps he will but destroy Hatton? Not sure about that.Comment

"What Freddie is failing to see, is that Malignaggi was hoping for the same when he fought Ricky, that his jab, speed and movement would control the fight from the middle rounds."
First of all... Pacquiao is not Malinaggi (I personally think Magicman is overrated)
"If Hatton was facing Diaz or De La Hoya [on that same December night], Beard says that his fighter would have finished both off much quicker".
It's a possibility.... yet we wouldn't really know.
"I've also been at the Wild Card [Roach's gym in California] watching Manny train and spar, plus witnessed his fights over the past few years. I've seen lots of mistakes and they will automatically play into Ricky's hands. We can use them to our advantage, mistakes which Manny makes over and over".
I believe that's been said before by Ignacio Beristain and legendary trainer Angelo Dundee. And the result will be in the hands of the boxer that's been trained... how to execute what has been planned. ODLH was not successful, JMM came close.
Roach is overestimating what Pacquiao can do
I agree...
"I'm positive Ricky will knock Manny out within six rounds and I believe that the fight won't be has difficult as some may think".
Yet, Beard makes his own version of overestimating.
"Beard says that as early as the first round, Manny will realize that he underestimated Hatton’s level of speed and strength. He was ringside for Pacquiao’s 2008 rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez. He saw plenty of things that worked for Marquez, some of them are Hatton’s bread and butter".
Manny won't underestimate, Pacman acknowledged that the fight with Hatton would be his toughest challenge to date.
It's good for Hatton to really study a fighter especially if he intends to fight him, I hope the things that worked for Marquez will work for Hatton too.
Hatton should really take into consideration the things that didn't work for Marquez.
“Ricky's only loss came to Mayweather Jr, a defensive master which Pacquiao is not. And Mayweather Jr. himself admitted Ricky was his most difficult fight."
I agree. Pacquiao is yet to develop his defensive skills, he did well against Diaz and Dela Hoya, and also showcased some accurate counter-punching skills too.
But Hatton's style is way too different than those of Diaz and DLH.
"Manny will realize in the first round, as all Ricky’s previous opponents have, that he's in the **** and he will quickly run for cover until Ricky catches up to him to close out another great night for the Hitman,” Beard said
This is "daydreaming" I hope he's right and it's not the other way around or the daydream would turn into a nightmare. I thought "Beard is usually quiet and keeps to himself,.."
"Me and Floyd have been talking and putting a game plan together and we are 100% confident Ricky will knock Manny out early."
Same goes with Ariza and Roach... that is why this fight is one of the best match up... the fighters, their past opponents, their mistakes.. needs to be broken down detail by detail to come up with the result.
Now, who would win? who the heck really knows?! after all the upsets last year and the upset early this year... one must learn.Last edited by Puntoyhauf; 02-12-2009, 08:07 AM.Comment

Is strength the key to winning fights, in your opinion? Or are overall skills more important?
As for those saying "Hatton punches harder!" -- So what? He has to actually land them. Jeff Lacy probably punches harder than Joe Calzaghe. Does that mean he would beat him?

Why do people keep saying Hatton hugs a lot? His last fight with Malignaggi he didn't hug or hold at all. The only person who was hugging & holding was Malignaggi because he was hurt by Ricky's power shots. RICKY HATTON HAS A NEW TRAINER WHO IS A GOOD DEFENSIVE ONE. & no matter what people say I've seen big improvements in him in his last fight & so did Floyd Mayweather Jr because he said so. Sometimes on these threads it reminds me of the movie "The Shining" with Jack Nicholas when the wife went to read his novel & all the pages kept saying the same thing over and over. Pacquiao has a chance to win but so does Ricky Hatton. If anything Ricky will be the favorite for me come fight time.Comment

Pac looks able to handle shots to the body pretty well these days. See around 3:20 of this vid.

what a clown trying to compare manny to malignaggi, come on hatton just walked through mallignaggi and paulie wasn't doing nothing, no movement and was basically a one handed fighter that night.
i think its hattons camp underestimating pac, hatton aint been with no one as good as pac since mayweather, hatton aint gonna know whats hit him, pac will be first to the punch every time.
and again its would'v could'v when comparing pac, like hatton can do things better than pac, can hatton box as beautifull as pac did against delahoya and diaz, i think not.Comment
