Hell, remember when the Lakers also had Karl Malone and Gary Payton along with Kobe, Shaq, and Fisher? I thought they would break the Bulls 72-win season. They didn't break that record and no championship ring either.

        kobe wasn't ready yet.

that's why i laugh at those who say kobe rode shaq's coattails.

eddie jones and van exel were an all star backcourt combo.

the fact that he had to wait for kobe to get better says a lot.

besides......fat ass snack o'neal couldn't guard the jazz's pick and roll.

karl malone and john stockton ate them up every single year in the playoffs.

I thought so too, I thought they'd be able to have like an A and B team switch during halfs. I was so disappointed in Malone's contributions, which essentially were none. Payton was too old and a journeyman at that point. Shaq's injured toes held him back late in the season into the playoffs, he couldn't **** the boards with Ben Wallace.

Oh and the lakers 2004 has to probably be the most disapointing season I've ever seen. I really thought Karl was finally going to win a ring

And the lakers were the jazz ***** in 98. And Russel was pushed by Jordan.

edit: One last thing: **** Steve Kerr too.

When you play on the same team as Shaq, you play for Shaq's team. The offensive set the Lakers had was to give the ball to Shaq and see what happened. For the "Me First" Kobe, it was hell having to run everything through Shaq.

It ****** for the Lakers then because Bryant still wasn't an A level player and Van Exel clashed with everyone on the team and the refs.

The Jazz had a lot of experience, they weren't going to be denied in 1998. They damn near beat the Bulls.

                      gary couldn't guard anyone anymore.

karl got hurt in the finals. he was doing good before that.

shaq......detroit's plan was to let shaq get his and make it tough on kobe. they knew shaq's fat ass couldn't keep up the pace and had low production with only one night's rest.

kobe didn't let the upcoming trial bother him in the playoffs but i think when it came to the end and there was only a few games left.....it hit him that he was facing trial in a few weeks.

btw.....if you can watch the jazz-lakers game......watch it. great game so far.
