Tyson is defiently the biggest champion since Muhammed Ali. 10 defenses of the title 27 of hes 29 first fight ended in knockout. he was a sport sesation with a good lifestory and totally magic before he went to prison. he was the american dream!

        to anmswer your question: yes!

          No, it's not.

Your agenda is clear, as is anybody's who makes a thread this ******. "Fighter A" is underrated because he's not American. "Fighter B" is overrated because he is American.

We've read this shit a million times. A certain cultural bias can be used to explain why these boards are filled with nationalistic douche bags who don't know shit about boxing, but anybody worth listening to can put aside that shit and formulate opinions that don't make them sound like sheep.

Ok, Tyson was a bad example. How about Roy Jones? He is known to have not fought the best out there, but is still considered as great. If he was British, everybody knows he wouldn't get the same respect as he does now.

I was having this conversation with some people in work and I thought I'd post it. I'm makin a fair point, not startin ****.

You're not making a point. You're making a baseless opinion which can't be supported or substantiated from any sort of meaningful perspective.

Everybody knows he wouldn't get the same respect as he does now.

Really? You know this somehow? You have some magical ability to know how the world feels about certain individuals if time and space shifted to make them another nationality at birth? You're wasting your superpowers here. Go and help cure cancer.

              You suck.

I posted my opinion to see what other peoples opinions are... Whats wrong with that? Why waste time arguing with me? IMO what I say is true and I'm sure alot of people will agree.

                  Jesus, you suck.

Your opinions are true? Do you know what a fucking opinion is?

If you're going to make a ****** fucking comment in a ****** fucking thread, do it the right way and go for gusto off the bat instead of tapdacing around the issue trying to get people to say your bull**** for you.

Try this: "Americans overrate their bull **** fighters and it makes me puke up my horrible, English breakfast. European fighters, British in particular, (it's where I'm from LOL) are vastly superior yet always overlooked by you silly, boorish Americans!"

(I aint tryin to put Tyson down, just using him as an example for my question)
If Tyson was European, to answer your question, no he wouldn't be as big and popular. Now, that doesn't mean he would've been any less of a great fighter, just his popularity would be different. I doubt anyone would have seen him or a guy like Roy Jones as a hypejob. Lennox Lewis is well respected by smart American boxing fans as a true great heavyweight, and his nationality has nothing to do with it. Calzaghe is different. The reason Americans and others call him a hypejob is because he never proved much to us. Yes he held a belt at SMW for a long time. Yes he was a good champion. But he didn't take or win the fights that earn long term endearing respect from fight fans. Guys like Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, and Roy Jones did.

Americans generally have the best fighters. They always have done. I didn't say anything bad about American fighters so whats your problem? The whole point in this thread is too see, for myself, if people think boxers would be underrated/overrated by where they come from.

It is true to me, that opinions of boxers are different because of where they come from. Obviously you are never going to agree with me, or even realize what I'm trying to say.
