    Glove Size

    Hi,

when Iam watching boxing I have always wondered thy the gloves are 12 oz big. I mean this is huge(it still hurts though). In mma there are only 4 oz big. In k1 they are also 12 oz. I dont want to say mma is better or boxing, but one main reason why I watch mma is the glove size. Iam doing karate with 4 oz gloves, so this will be a factor too. But I think its just so much more fun to watch a fight with small gloves then with big gloves. Watching a fight with 2 big chunks just doenst do it for me. Why are the gloves 12 oz big, was it always taht way? Do you think it would be better with 4 oz gloves, and how much would this change affect the game?

I believe in boxing anything below welterweight 8oz gloves can be used (and can be used in WW, as per Margarito/Cotto). Anything above and 10oz gloves are used. 12oz gloves are not used.

MMA used 4oz because it's a different game and in boxing if fighters used 4oz gloves the fights would last about 2 minutes.

    BORING.

I didnt say that mma is better than boxing. I just said that boxing with 4 oz would create more joy for me. And not every fight would last just 2 minutes. There could be a couple of interesting matchups on one card like in k1 or mma, not just one big fight.

There would be significantly shorter fights with 4 ounce gloves and everyone would have a 90% KO rate.

Ther eis a time and a place for 4oz gloves: It's called wrestling and a bit of punching: i.e., MMA.

Boxing is about vicious wars like Vazquez/Marquez. Barrera/Morales etc etc. 12 round superfights that leave everyone amazed. 3 mins and one of them spark out and it would be a waste. 8/10 is fine... knock outs a plenty come anyway so I don't see any problem at all.
