Both had wins over old/past prime fighters, Mayweather (DLH and Hernandez). Calzaghe (Hopkins, Eubank and Roy Jones JR)

Both chose to retire undefeated, Calzaghe fought Prime Kessler and Lacy, Mayweather fought Prime Castillo, Corrales and Hatton.

Calzaghe stepped up in 2006 against Lacy, Mayweather stepped up in 2001 against Corrales, both opponents were undefeated and tipped to beat the other, but as you know history will be more kind to Corrales than Lacy.

Calzaghe went pro in 1993, Mayweather went pro in 1997.

Mayweather was ranked P4P No 1 for 4 Years and had been in the P4P List since 1999, Calzaghe was ranked P4P No 2 at the max, and been on the P4P List after his destruction of Lacy in 2006, 13 years after he turned pro.

So the point is either both of them should be respected, or none of them.

Because there are certain posters who respect Calzaghe and disrespect Mayweather, double standard much?
please never compare floyd to calzaghe

Both of them were respected however as Mayweather was considerably younger and the universally recognised number one pound for pound fighter on the planet it is inevitable that there was greater calls for him to remain active. It should be viewed as a compliment.
