What the Marvalous one said, one can take with a grain of salt, Eubanks was on the down side of his career, i respect Calzaghe for handpicking opponents for years because he didnt want to leave his confines and take on real challengers and CHAMPS over here, then finally coming over here to fight a couple 40 plus year olds....
The Hopkins fight, i called a draw, he looked foolish in there and only won because he stayed busy hitting shoulders and elbows and barely won by SD at that, then didnt have the balls to give him a rematch????
Give him credit for beating Roy Jones? hell nah, Jones was shot after tarver, the fact that he couldnt put jones away made him look even worse....

i disagree with the hopkins part i think joe had a plan and it was to win ugly which worked but as for the jones fight thats actually a good point joe should have put him away im glad he didnt tho roy jones is a legend and i wanted him to beat joe

The big difference is that nowadays Hagler is considered a legend. I know from my Uncle in San Diego who has been a hardcore boxing fan since the mid-seventies that Hagler's resume was questioned by a few haters. The likes of "his best wins were against welterweights" etc. Hagler didn't get the big competition until his later years either. Can you imagine anyone nowadays saying that Hagler avoided the best competition while they were in their prime? No they accept that it was difficult for him to get the big fights. Let's say Boxing Scene was around when Hagler fought Leonard and let's say that Hagler won, I bet a fair percentage of people would have disregarded the victory with "Leonard was old and shot". Some people are just ridiculous.

I'm NOT saying that Calzaghe is as good as Hagler, in fact Starvin' Marvin might be my favourite fighter of all time, but a lot about the two of them is comparable.

                  46-0 (32).

WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA, RING Super Middleweight Champion.

                  RING Light Heavyweight Champion.

You don't like him? Fair enough. You don't respect what he's done? You're a moron. No one credible is claiming he's the GOAT, but Calzaghe deserves respect.
Good post. It's true about his resume being questioned. For example, in his 45th fight, he was up against a guy with 38 losses.

Can you imagine the **** Calzaghe would get if he fought a guy with 38 losses in his 45th pro fight? We would never hear the end of it.

It takes nothing away from Hagler's greatness, though. At some point, the hate for Calzaghe will die away, just as it did for Hagler, and as it did for Lewis. Lennox used to get insane amounts of disrespect hurled at him. But look at him now. He is only just getting the kind of respect he deserves.

Joe Calzaghe won't be appreciated until people realize how long it's gonna be before we see someone like him again. Either that, or they'll just get bored of talking the same old ****.

How do you put away someone when you just broke your hand on his face in the 7th round, though?

The Jones fight should have been stopped. People were phoning Roy's dad and begging for it to be stopped during the fight, FFS. It's shameful that it wasn't stopped around the 9th round if you ask me. That fight would and should have been a Calzaghe TKO.

i think they let it go on because of who jones is i agree the fight shold have been stopped as jones was gettin taken apart which was a shame as its never good to see a legend get made to look ****** but i guess thats the nature of the game
