I remember this quote. No doubt Calzaghe is a great fighter - just not sure that a Eubank, well past his prime and taking the bout on two weeks notice - is proof of it.

It's not the names like Eubank, Kessler, etc that impressed me. It was performances against guys like Omar Sheika that showed me Calzaghe was nuthin' to play wit.

I bet Hagler can relate to Calzaghe. Both have had to fight very hard for respect and both have had their resumes questioned. The big difference is that nowadays Hagler is considered a legend. I know from my Uncle in San Diego who has been a hardcore boxing fan since the mid-seventies that Hagler's resume was questioned by a few haters. The likes of "his best wins were against welterweights" etc. Hagler didn't get the big competition until his later years either. Can you imagine anyone nowadays saying that Hagler avoided the best competition while they were in their prime? No they accept that it was difficult for him to get the big fights. Let's say Boxing Scene was around when Hagler fought Leonard and let's say that Hagler won, I bet a fair percentage of people would have disregarded the victory with "Leonard was old and shot". Some people are just ridiculous.

I'm NOT saying that Calzaghe is as good as Hagler, in fact Starvin' Marvin might be my favourite fighter of all time, but a lot about the two of them is comparable.

            46-0 (32).

WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA, RING Super Middleweight Champion.

            RING Light Heavyweight Champion.

You don't like him? Fair enough. You don't respect what he's done? You're a moron. No one credible is claiming he's the GOAT, but Calzaghe deserves respect.
