Calzaghe is the superior fighter, he clearly won the fight, outlanded Hopkins 232-127.

It may have had more to do with his thyroid condition (which causes fatigue) then freddie roach being his trainer for that fight. Hopkins never mentions it as an excuse, but after hopkins beat pavlik freddie roach was asked why hopkins looked so different and roach said he knew hopkins was having a hard time controlling his thyroid condition while training for Calzaghe. He said Mackie Shilstone was trying to control it by diet, which is very hard to do, and he thinks that it wasn't an issue for hopkins against pavlik but was against joe. He said he couldn't explain why else hopkins didn't have the energy to throw punches in the later rounds, as he's never been a guy to get tired in the later rounds.

We'll never know now though.

I would love to see the rematch but it's not going to happen. I think Joe won the fight by maybe a point but I could see it being scored a draw or ever for Hopkins by a point. I think that should be enough to call for a rematch but it's not going to happen. BTW I would pick Bhop to win if they end up fighting again.

I actually think the reason he got tired is because he kept tieing Joe up and because Joe has the greater stamina the two fighters wrestling in clinches wore out Hopkins more than Joe.

Yeah that could have been the reason, or part of the reason. Still he tired up Winky the exact same way and still had energy in the later rounds to throw combo's. It's the only fight I can recall ever seeing hopkins look fatigued.
