Ever since Calzaghe punished my favorite fighter Jeff Lacy a few years ago I've become a fan of his. He's an exciting fighter who again and again proves his critics wrong. I was hoping to see at least 1 more fight out of him before his retirement and contrary to what he says now I think we will eventually......If not, cong**** on a great Career you'll be remember forever by true boxing fans!

I would liked to have seen him have 1/2 more fights, but you have to stop sometime.I was gutted when nigel benn retired, but in retrospect he did the right thing. He hasnt got anything to prove,he had a great career and I am sure he will look back on it with pride as the years go by.From a british perspective fighters like him,Benn,Lewis,Naz etc. marked a change in the way we view boxing in this country.I think how different it is from the eighties when Bruno got more respect and affection from losing to Witherspoon and Tyson than Honeyghan got for ripping all the belts off Don Curry. We have had massive success by comparison in the last 20 years and Joe Calzaghe has done as much,if not more to contribute to that as anyone else

Personally, I'm kinda in the middle. If he were to face the only real challenge at the weight (Dawson), then I wanted him to stay in the game.
However, if he were to just milk a few more wins off of fading legends and contenders, then be gone with him. Boxing doesn't need that. We need more Ricky Hatton's. Fighters willing to give their all (including their '0') for something great. Joe was always afraid to really have a good chance at losing in the ring.
happy for him, hes earned it. 46-0 with 41 fights against harrys. oh well you cant satisfy the world.

He had a long successful career and made plenty of money. He deserves to leave on his own terms. As the saying goes, better too early than too late.

I don't really care honestly...I find him boring and anyway, it was either Chad or B-Hop rematch. He would have easily beaten Chad though

I'm Happy he's retired undefeated, he doesn't have anything else to prove and i DON'T think he's an ATG.

Face if he had beaten Dawson and Hopkins again he STILL wouldn't be ATG.

Sure he had something to prove .That he can beat at least one top/prime fighter @ LHW. That he didn't do. He will always be known as the guy who beat Hopkins and Jones after they were 43 and 39. I love Rocky Marciano but we know he had a slim chance to beat Joe Louis prime for prime. That's why he's not considered the best.

I'm already blue in the face saying this. Calzaghe has a miniscule legacy at best and he had allot of unfinished business in the ring. He is only cheating himself by retiring now. Dawson and a few others would have tested him and he knew that. That's why he is retiring now. To preserve the '0'. It's smart business for him but not for boxing fans. Simple stuff really.
