  • He'll be forgotten in 5 years time. His name will only be mentioned when B-Hop and Roy Jones are talked about. Peace.

I completely agree, sometimes it is a bit fun to joke around about his style but overall he has had a great career and left this sport on top.

      • Probably 10th of all time.

IT's a good thing that Joe retired. He pulled it off. The most protected and groomed fighter in history. It goes to show you that when you got family, your country and local media holding your hand throughout your career to avoid the true fighters over in the US, you could have a spotless record.
I'm 37 years old, so I know the history of the true fighters that didn't avoid the big names in boxing until they passed their prime. Roy Jone Jr. walked through all the divisions. Bernard Hopkins had a chance to fight Jones for an immediate rematch, but realized from the first meeting that he couldn't beat Jones at that point in his career, probably nobody at that point. They moved on with their careers. Joe, Antonio, Bernard and all the other fighters waited until the right time to fight Jones to shine. Joe stayed in the UK so he wouldn't be a washed up fighter with so many losses to same level talent in the US. He would have been dropped to many times and his style would not have been effective with the wide open chin that could be hit at any time from any top US fighters (Jones, Hopkins, etc.) in their prime. Always look at the total career, when they foght the opposition, when they could have and the levels they accomplished. That makes you great. Joe is a good fighter,
but great, very big question mark. In the UK, yes great he is. His fellow countrymen are suppose to say that. How many top fighters did he beat in his prime? I would rank him honestly behind Sugar Ray, Hearns, Haggler, Hopkins, Jones (he should not be ranked, he did it all), probably 10th of all time in the middle weight divisions.

          • Sad and glad to hear it. I've wanted to watch Joe fight a Kessler rematch, but he thinks he is done. As far as I'm concerned, Joe Calzaghe is one of the best professional boxers in history of this planet.

              • I can care less......they way I see Joe reminds me of a hook on one of Fat Joe's songs..."He's so right but he's not real".......before the Hop fight he said Hop was an IDIOT but NOT A RACIST......then he changed his tone when it came to a rematch......HE'S A RACIST! .........If he was more interested in fighting ALL the top dudes than protecting his "0" then I would props him up.......some chumps might call it hate but I call the truth! The truth is NEVER popular but it is ALWAYS right!

                • Well good luck to him.

I would of liked to see him face Dawson or Hopkins but if he feels it's time then it's time.

It's good to see a fighter retire on top.
