I'm supposed to accept that it's reasonable for Joe to dismiss arguably the current top LHW when said LH KTLFO of a few years fresher version of Jones when Cal couldn't even get the absolutely shot version out of there?

      I swear I'm on Krypton.
I have as much right to post here as you do, mate. And you're responding to something I didn't write, not to what I actually wrote. I said nothing about dismissing anyone. What I wrote was that, as proved by the P4P rankings, most boxing experts currently believe Calzaghe is better than Johnson, so anyone who writes idiotic crap like "Glen Johnson would rip you apart" is just a hater.

Yes, Johnson is a very good fighter, and all credit to him for his win over Jones. Most boxing experts don't rate him as a great fighter though, which is why he's not in the P4P lists. And the fact he punches harder than Joe these days, and knocked out Roy Jones, doesn't mean he would beat Joe - Pavlik punches harder than Hopkins. Styles make fights.

As for the "opportunities", if you have a back injury, that is not an opportunity, no-one would be allowed to fight with a back injury; and negotiations that break down aren't opportunities either, they're potential opportunities, but if they fail they fail. Only someone who is biased could exclusively blame one party for them failing.

All I was saying was that people who are "nuthuggers" and people who are haters are both as bad as each other. There have been too many of both posting in this thread, but the vast majority have been haters.

      • Sad to see Calzaghe go. But good to see him leave with his health in tact, at the top of his game. Froch showed a real lack of class.

This is bull.... ! so call me a hater but Joe retired with a 5-0 record. Who the hell did he beat besides B-hop (old) roy Jones (old) Kessler (good boxer) Jeff Lacy (overated) and The Contender guy, I cant even remember his name. All of his other opponents were cab drivers !!!!! Besides these 5 boxers can you name 5 other quality opponents PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like Froch, but Froch was quite pragmatic and honest. Read his words again.

            • Don't know why Froch is being criticized. He said it how it is.

Calzaghe faced no real Opponents, and was only underdog in i think 1 fight, and that was against the over-Rated Lacy. The same Lacy that was schooled silly by Taylor recently.

I've seen some pretty ****** posts by fans of many other fighters. And to a large extent the more rabid pro-Calzaghe posters are simply reacting to the ****** posts they see from the many haters. No other boxer of his stature has anywhere near as many haters as Calzaghe does, and they need reminding that almost all P4P lists had Calzaghe in the top 5, most in the top 3, when he retired. When idiots write that someone with that stature is useless and couldn't beat their grandmother, it's not surprising that some people react and go to the opposite extreme. Fact is, no of course he's no Leonard, but he'll get in the HoF whether the haters like it or not.
Mayweather is the P4P most hated boxer on this site, ask anyone who has been here for a couple of years.

                  • But seriously, Joe Calzaghe is by far not my favorite boxer by no means but out of 46 professional fights, NO one could expose this dude? Maybe he hasn't fought everyone that WE think could have had a chance to beat him but DAMN! 46? & he knocked out 32 of them? Looks to me like dudes blew their chances like Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy & Bernhard Hopkins. I think Lacy went in the ring with Joe thinking he was a scrub cause he was from the UK fighting Nobodies but got a foot put in his ass.

People call Jeff Lacy a bum now but before everyone had dude on a pedestal but once he lost to Calzaghe then he's a bum? That's the problem I have with some people who comment or post. Bhop is a REAL cat & my dude but he held back from Calzaghe. I KNOW Bhop could of taxed him because he proved he could hurt Calzaghe but he just didn't let his hands go enough. Hopkins was fighting too technical against a guy who has a high punch out put. All in all Calzaghe must of had something in them Slaps because he made Bernhard hesitant & bloodied Roy up, demolished Lacy & out boxed Kessler. Roy Jones knew he was going to get stomped out, he just fooled the world and 200,000 people who paid for the fight. I guess no one wants to end up like Jones, Holyfield & many fighters that just don't know when to hang em up.

Well it's a close run thing, IMO. Either way, people who hate successful boxers are not true boxing fans, IMO - you might not like someone's style, but that's no reason to hate them or to irrationally denigrate their achievements.
