Joe Calzaghe Calls it Quits, Announces Retirement

Undefeated Joe Calzaghe (46-0) has announced his retirement from boxing. Coming off a banner year in 2008, where he moved up to light heavyweight to win decisions over Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr., Calzaghe saw no reason to go any further. [details]

Joe "The GOAT" Calzaghe P4P #1 of all time!!

j/k dude, personally I think I really don't like this guy. He really thinks his legacy is sealed with Hopkins and Jones wins....

But of course it is his decision, I'm sure he's made enough money to live quite comfortably and who am I to tell a man when he should or shouldn't retire??

Seriously though, just think how much more respected Calzaghe would be if he fought his whole career like he did the last 2 years of it (sure he mixed in Manfredo and a shot Jones, but in the 2 years he had Hopkins who was still Top 10 level, Kessler who was highly regarded, and Lacy who was percieved to be a threat even if he turned out to be more bark than bite), even if he would have picked up a loss or 2 along the way.

It's a shame. No more super fights. No chance for the rematch everyone's been waiting for.
