esspecially when you still have somethin to prove(hopkins)
The Hopkins fight was an ugly, boring fight, and a rematch would be very likely to be just as ugly and boring. Hopkins admitted later that a primary tactic of his to nullify Calzaghe's speed was clinching - which ensured the fight would be ugly. A rematch would also probably be very close again, and if Calzaghe won again, that wouldn't satisfy his haters, who would still say exactly the same things about him that they've always said. So it would be a fairly pointless fight to end his career on, and not much of a present for the Welsh fans. Plus the extreme ungraciousness of Hopkins after the first fight, especially in the press conference, meant he didn't deserve a rematch, and that was also a factor in Calzaghe's mind. Hopkins would have probably been just as ungracious if he'd lost the rematch so it would have been a rancorous end to his career, even if he'd won, not a great way to bow out in front of his fans. I should add that I am a huge fan of Hopkins the fighter, but not of Hopkins the man.

Much, much less controversy in Joe's fight with Hopkins than there was in Lewis's fight with Vitali.

So Lewis is not I true fighter I guess....

We'd love to, but we can't help but think he has unfinished business in the ring. Anyway, now that he's retired it'll be a short time before he's forgotten. Failure at capturing imaginations, like Fatton and Pacman or even Gay La Hoya (can't even mention him with the ear biter here).
